Hello secret society members:
My co-worker just told me his dad has a long block from a Grand National in his garage.
I've been trying to figure out what kind of car is worthy of such an engine. I've shopped around for 240Z but the rust scares me.
Quest, what car would you look to drop this engine into? A 7 replica? Old Regal?
I've seen one in a 944. What year is the engine?
Ive read that they dont do well with manual trannys. So consider what car you would like to drive with an auto.
There's video of one in a geo wagon somewhere. I believe it ran low 10's.
What's the answer to every question?
(seriously, a 3800 Turbo miata would be bad ass)
Stuff it into a naked sport bike. Or a lawnmower.:)
I think it would be cool in one of those "Stalker" seven replicas.

I fantasize about putting one of these into my GTV6.

I was about to post and then I realized, I have absolutely nothing to add here that doesn't "require" a manual transmission... :what??:
Find a custom cruiser wagon...or any of the G-bodies in wagon trim. I like Malibu 2-doors also.
I don't know if Buick made a midsize (G-body) wagon...but if they didn't, no big deal. Just take one of the other variants and put a regal nose on it :).
Grand Wagonal?
National Wagon?
Wagon National?
Grand Stational?
Grand StationWagoNational?
Should be fun! And very easy.

On a mostly unrelated note...I knew a guy who had a nice black buick regal T-type with a Buick (I think) 455 in it and he drove it around with licence plates that said "Rare 6"
That's just deceptive ;)
Can anyone explain why is has to be an automatic? I vote 914 if you can mate it to a manual, although rear-engined sounds way too tricky to be worthwhile.

It's not that the GN didn't 'do well' with a manual transmission; it's just that they were a little quicker with an ATX because the continuous load kept them in boost better because shifts were quicker, and because you could preload the torque convertor and get a little boost up at launch.
[edit] And I think that anyone who is suggesting it get swapped into something that already has a titanic engine bay (that would easily accept a blown BBC) is perhaps lost the plot a little.
