So I have decided that the Mercedes is probably going to go because well I have one to many projects and I would rather focus on the Yugo and Spitfire. But here is the thing, the previous owner said it died from oil starvation so we put the thing back together threw in some new oil and found out the starter was dead. Would you get a starter and try to fire it up and sell it as a semi-running car or just say screw it?

I'd fix the starter and try to fire it up and sell it...

Starters aren't terribly difficult to work with, they don't even need parts half the time, the brushes just get siezed in their holders. A lot of CAREFUL work freeing the brushes (they're crumbly) and cleaning up the commutator and it's good as new.

Ditto. Attempt to get it running. It shows at least you aren't just trying to flip a non-running vehicle.

Only here would someone ditch a Mercedes for a Yugo.

What year and model are we talking about?

To me it depends on how much time and hassle you want to put in to it. If you don't have the time to fix the starter then just disclose what you know about it and put it up for sale. I think you'd probably get more $$ for a partially running car than a non running parts car.

I was thinking the same thing, but, you know, that's just how we are.

It's like when someone asks what you're going to do for fun this weekend, and you say "I'm gonna drive 2 hours and stand in the sun for eight or nine hours while other people fling dust at me. I get to fling dust at other people for ten-fifteen minutes, too. Then I drive home assuming I didn't make my car non-operational."

Makes sense to me, and most of you, but the man on the street would just walk away shaking his head...
