Serious question: What would make you click this link and register to compete in the $2018 Challenge?

No, no–I don't mean what do you think would get more participants (we have some ideas) or what we should do to market the event next year (we have some ideas there too).

I'm asking what it will take for you or the person you're going to ride with (spectators are free) to click register?

Let me know, and I'll do my best to make it happen.

Fix my tow pig and I'll bring a boring Miata or tow a more interesting turbo Rampage or v8 S10 swap :)

Sorry Tom, I've been meaning to follow up, I have an email chain with Rick from back in June because I was asking how to roll forward my registration from last year (last year we had a vehicle issue on route and could not compete and I was told I could roll my entrance fee back to this year - which I really appreciate, by the way). I just haven't taken the few minutes to see what I need to do yet.

You mean you're willing to skip the Challenge because you don't want to drive a Miata 11 hours? It's a small Japanese commuter car, how hard could it be?

I would, but I won't be up that way before the Challenge. Why not get a few other GRMers over there and git 'er done?

No worries, Robbie.

Rick no longer works for us, so Nancy can get everything straightened out for you. Shoot her an email at Nancy@grassrootsmotorsports.com and she'll get things fixed fast.

It's easier to move you than it is to move everybody else. Here's how we'll fix it.

Step one: Buy a plane ticket to Jacksonville.

Step Two: Buy this $1250 Nissan from Pimpm3

Step Three: Profit.

I'm 23, so the short of it is that I'd need more money, and some friends. I have no shop (I live at an apartment for college), my tools are at home 2 hours away, and I have a scholarship such that I can't let any of my classes slip. I think I actually have / have access to most of the tools needed to make some really cool contraptions, but no time / space to engage in such a project.

So, uh, check back in a few years?

It's more that I have to spend a bunch of time not doing helping-out-with-the-kids things now to get the car fixed which means when I try to do more not-helping-out-with-the-kids in October I might return home to changed locks.

I will also have an entry for the parking lot build. As seen here:

Pimpm3 - how have you handled the PLB registrations in the past? have you registered on-site or did you register early?

In order of most serious:

  • Join forces with a big local car show that Saturday morning during Concours, like a Cars and Coffee sort of thing. Parking lot is for anyone, paddock for Challenge cars only. Good exposure for the event and more folks to appreciate our handiwork.
  • Then re-open the drag strip and let regular people "Challenge the Challengers"
  • Dyno trailer with free pulls for participants
  • Skid pad challenge
  • Rally-cross section
  • Challenge car tug-of-war tournament

I mean, I'm already registered but this stuff would be pretty cool

For the parking lot build, go ahead and register it now. That keeps things way easier for all involved.

Dyno trailer would be a great idea. I understand not moving it from florida but that would be great too. Im about as far away as possible from the challenge, 40hrs driving one way.

From a quick google, there is a facebook page hosting a monthly0 Cars and Coffee in Gainesville that Sunday Oct 14. I bet they could be convinced to change venue for one month, if that's even allowable on the site.

And because the obvious hasn't been said yet, get the track to re-schedule paving so we can drag race.

it must be me!

oh yea, make next year a year for color. like the S E M A event in the July issue they wanted good looking cars.

More time off work or closer proximity. I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could make the drive in less than a day, not that you fine folks could change that.

I've always wanted to come to the Challenge, and I never have. Hurdles for me are:

a. It really is far. It's a long haul to get down there. I know, people come from farther away, but it's hard to get away for that many days with work, other work, business stuff, family stuff, and so on.

b. I don't need/can't fit more cars and if I buy a challenge car, I need to get rid of that challenge car afterwards. Selling cars is the worst, and selling cheaply modified sporty cars... Ugh.

c. I have very limited working space available. I have often thought of parking lot build, or just a buy and drive and show up with basically what I've just bought, but then I'm back to b. How to get rid of the car after the event is over.

d. I am not a backyard garage genius. I don't know how to build a four-second car for $650.25. I don't have any sophisticated tools. My small rented garage doesn't have 220v. I don't have any friends who work on cars so I'm an army of one

I guess if you solved those for me, I'd register right now.

If it we're 90 days later I'm 90% sure I'd be there. The escort would be ready with tires, pads, coilovers installed, alignment, some paint correction and the "party piece". The issue is budget on my end is regarding gas, lodging and food if I make all the other things work. The escort fell into my lap in late July and I have most of the goodies to make it a go for autocross from the 323, but timing and non build budget aspects of the trip are the monkey wrench on my end.
