D Stock is a very popular class in autocrossing. Because of this popularity, a favorite topic of conversation at autocrosses is: "What's the hot setup in this class? Is it a GTI, a Colt Turbo, or is it one of those rear wheel drive cars?" We wanted the answer to this question ourselve…
Today, DS is dominated by the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ, with the 7th Gen Honda Civic Type R in the hunt and the Elantra N trying hard. Interestingly, the Dodge Colt kinda lives on in the Mitsubishi Mirage though NO ONE is racing one, the VW GTI is still popular with Autocrossers, the Nissan Z is still around albeit on life support, and Chrysler is about dead and I doubt anyone is autocrossing a Pacifica minivan.

Surely, there's at least one person out there doing stupid things on a race track with a Pacifica.
When I ran D Stock, the Sentra SE-R was the reigning champ. (Part of why I bought one.) Other hot cars locally: 1986-’87 Civic Si and 240Z. Now I wonder if I have any old results....

I thought it was the Plymouth Laser and the Dodge Daytona? If I remember way back, one was more luxurious right?
From that list, though, the GTI is the one that calls to me. White, with the blue interior please.
In reply to ZOO (Forum Supporter) :
That’s my old GTI: white over blue.
The car was originally black with red interior. Someone repainted it white, and I swapped in the blue interior.
Damn, cool to see what was being run back when I was three years old!
I like the idea of a twin stick Colt being used for autocross. Would be like Fast and Furious shifting.

D-Stock those were for wealthy folks. LOL
We were in H-stock; with the Datsun I'm still driving today.

That also gave me a flashback to Ken and Todd Rupp......
I had a few cars that ran in D stock, notably a shelby charger non-turbo, Pontiac Fiero V6 SE, Dodge Daytona Turbo, but my fondest of all was the Bsp Chevy Nova. I had more fun with that car than I ever had a right to.
In reply to Colin Wood :
Any model name that's also the name of an American Gladiator is always solid.

Wow, haven’t heard those names in a minute.
I know! I don't know what it was about that trigger of Renee and D Stock and boom there they were, with their kind smiles and southern drawls.

that's what was hot and FAST in D Stock in 1985
This is Ann in her very first autocross. Looking ahead out the window like a boss.
