Well, i live in that city, and i could come up with many stereotypes as to why this happened, and they're all probably correct. But this is a family board, so i will refrain.

I would assume there is an oil leak or consumption issue as the dipstick and filler cap are unpainted. "Thing's tickin' like a bastid..." "Where's that dipstick?" "Orange,orange,orange,orange,yellow,orange...HEY,there it is!" Gotta love opaque windshield washer fluid reservoirs.

I looked at a V6 Swapped chrome bumper MGB GT at the Portland swap meet this year that had the same orange "everything under the hood" Affliction. The car looked great and I was ready to call the wife and tell her I might be getting into trouble by bringing a new project home, when I looked under the hood and the cars appeal flicked off like a switch. The seller stood there beaming saying it was "all new in there". hoses, belts, everything all orange.

I think people who aren't used to painting pick a color and the image in their mind isn't what the end product ends up being. I know the first time I tried rattle-canning an intake I thought I could control the spray well enough to not need masking. It looked terrible to say the least.

I'm sure he thought it was a great idea.

I think it is that they see GM Small blocks that come orange from the factory and think all engines should be ourange.

Wow. I think when you get carded for buying spray paint, it isn't actually because of vandalism or huffing, it's because they want to make sure you're not that guy. He should never be allowed to own spray paint again.

I once new a farmer ,who after rebuilding his tractor engine, decided to paint it with aluminum paint, spark plug wires, spark plugs and all. Wondered why it wouldn't start.

Whenever I would take off and replace/clean a part on my old '90 Lincoln, I would paint it Ford Blue. The engine slowly picked up Ford Blue pieces, as did the suspension (metal parts only). But I prepped the part, shot it, cleared it, and bolted it back on. This case I have no words for....

I have gone out of my way to make sure than no Ford engine is ever painted blue. I will paint them black, red, industrial grey even lime green... but never Ford Blue.

hmm...when i rebuilt the 351 for my truck i made sure it was painted ford blue...one reason i wanted to rebuild the engine. I was tired of looking at that crappy cast iron metal blob under the hood. If someone tells me how to post pictures here i will post them, i think it looks good.
