Next season I am planning to run Hoosier 245/40/15 A7 tires on an NA Miata, not worried about fenders. Would a 9-inch wide wheel (Advanti Storm) be wide enough or should I just pony up and get the 10-inch wide wheels?

9 inch will be plenty I'm pretty sure, I have 225's on 8 inch wheels and they fit perfect; no bulge, no stretch. Considering 225mm is 8.8 inches and 245 is 9.6 I think It should fit nicely. It will definitely fit though, There is a another miata on the forum I saw running 225's on 6.5 inch wheels!
If your goal is max performance get the 10s. How wide a wheel should I get?
General rule for Miatas:
205 on 8s
225 on 9s
245 on 10s
I think the Konig Dekagrams are the only 15x10 in stock anywhere right now.
The fast Miata guys run a 205 Hoosier on 9" wheels, for example.
10" would be the minimum, I think some guys are even running the 245s on 11" wheels.

A 205 on 9 will be slower than a 245 on a 9.
People used to run 275 Hoosiers on 15x6 wheels when Stock allowed any DOT tire. Yes, it was pinched, and yes, it was not using the full potential of those tires due to the narrow wheel, but given the class rules that required stock wheel size it was still the fastest option for autox.

Came here to post this. I'd honestly be surprised if anyone has ever put a 205 width hoosier on a 9" wide wheel on purpose. As long as you can physically mount them you can put the tire on just about as narrow a wheel as you want and it'll still work decently, just feel like absolute garbage. But to answer the OP's question , i'd put those tires on a 9" wheel all day long, even an 8 if I had to. Any narrower on the wheel than that and I'd want a narrower tire unless I was only looking for outright speed and not driving enjoyment.
I mounted 245 a7's on 8.5 wheels for the challenge and it was a pain in the junk, a 9.5-10" wheel would have been preferable.

Yes, they have. Many, many times. Check the Race Prep section and build sections on MiataTurbo.
The 205 Hoosier runs wider than most 205s, so it's an outlier. Lots of folks run them on skinny wheels because that's what they have, or what their class rules allow. It doesn't mean it won't be faster on a wider wheel.
