As someone that's been married 18 years, has 3 children and is very in touch with his finances (read: not wealthy) whether or not I should accept a free car is a no-brainer. Accept the car!

If I was in your position I'd be more concerned about the MIL finding out about the girlfriend. The car wouldn't really matter at that point.

I haven't read all the thread, but here's what I did when I got a free car I didn't want to drive. My mother in law gave us her old car, which was a small 4 door econobox. I took it and field raced it until we hit a tree, then used it for target practice, then scrapped it. I'm not an appliance car guy, but sure had a lot of fun with that one.
