Where would you advertise a rare but not very valuable car?

In this specific case, my 1st gen CRX Si. I'll have another day of cleaning it up and then it'd be ready for sale. As it's one of those unicorns - namely, a completely unmodified CRX Si that hasn't returned to earth yet, but is also a typical survivor in the sense that it's got a few minor battle scars - I was thinking about throwing it up on ebay with a reasonable reserve.

I figured I'd ask the hive mind for suggestions where to put it up for sale though, I was thinking maybe also on Craigslist and Red Pepper Racing, but either way I want as much exposure as possible. Ideas?

How about GRM message boards?

A Honda forum would be good. And here, of course!

Maybe submit to BAT or dailyturismo?

I'd send it straight to eBay, with a reasonable reserve and an unreasonable Buy It Now.

Is it worthy of a bring a trailer submission?

We have had two sub $5000 cars spotlighted on bringatrailer and the calls and emails just poured in. a $3000 Cortina in rough shape sold in an hour and the inbox had 240 responses.

It's pretty nice but not necessarily nice enough for BAT. Mind you, that might still be worth a shot because it wouldn't be the first time I've "undersold" a car.

Part of the problem is that I don't really have a good handle on the value of the car - might be anything from $2500 to $5000 - so it's hard for me to determine a good asking price.

Since your profile says you're in Nevada, can we assume the car is rustfree or nearly so? I think CRXs (particularly unmodified ones) are going to be in high demand anywhere there is snow and salted roads, so maybe put it on Craigslist in Minneapolis - I can't tell you the last time I saw one on the street here in any condition.

I once used an eBay listing and several model-specific forums to get some exposure, and I put in the eBay ad that I reserved the right to sell it locally and pull the listing. I actually had someone local buy the car, so I canceled the auction a few days before it ended.

Agreed. Come up with a price, post some pics and post it on the Open Classifides board. May as well try the "free" options before dealing with eBay or BAT.

I can tell you I don't think I've seen a good one since I left AZ. Here in the midwest, they don't exist, molested or otherwise.

It's almost rust free (a little bubbling in the bottom corners of the windshield) and while the fenders have a crack or two each, they don't have chunks missing like it's so common.

I have not taken off the plastic cladding around the bottom of the car because it's so brittle that I'm afraid it'll break (and it's unobtanium), however I've had the car on axle stands several times without it making any funny crunchy sounds, plus when I swapped out the shocks for new ones, the rear shock towers were basically pristine.

As to the unmodified status, it does have 80s louvers on the rear window and an 80s stereo install that was very well done, but obviously required holes in the door cards. I have a set of uncut door cards to go with the car.

Heck, it even has the original airbox and exhaust still on the car, although the rear muffler has been "repaired" with some chickenE36 M3 welds. It's still gas tight and quiet, though.

Surprisingly, I see a few of them in NJ (although I don't know enough about them to tell of they are Si versions). I pass by a house with one every day. An older fellow drives it - usually with his dog. Coincidentally, he got a CR-Z when they first came out, but kept the CRX.

BAT would be best.

I hate to ask but how much were you thinking? I loved my 87 Si. But maybe I wouldn't nowadays.

Ahh, it's a Honda thing! No wonder I never heard of it.

Anywhere that SCCA types hang out would be a good place to list it.

I can't remember the last time I've seen a 1st. gen. CRX anywhere in New England, even the scrapyards. There are still 2nd. gen. CRXs buzzing around, and I mean literally because those are rustbuckets held together with rubber bands and fleaBay "go-fast" parts. If BoxheadTim had a 2nd. gen. I'd tell him to keep it far away lest it end up like its misfortunate brethren.

2 years ago I posted mine all over the forums.
