If you're considering a Focus, you also seriously should consider a Mazda3.

If I recall correctly, the Mazda3 chassis is the same one that the newest Focus uses as well, except you can get it in a 2005 model car.

I drove one from Raleigh, NC to Fairlee, VT and it was comfortable and fun.

Well it's as much of a hot hatch as many of the cars (not hot hatches) that have been suggested in this thread. Seriously so many people are so confused on what a hot hatch is.

Exactly. That's the general goal/idea here. I may not get a Mini this way, but I can get a P71 and work towards a house to park it at.

Ok, NOW i am onboard with this idea. Knowing the rest of the money is intended for more productive things makes this bait and switch thread a lot easier to swallow.
