i can appreciate the work that went into it but its a downgrade in looks and performance unless he did a crapload of work to the mechanical bits as well.

I like the looks, I'm a sucker for a boxy car.

It has a custom built 4age in it. There is a thread about the engine on the club4ag forums. I love the car, but I don't know if I would have spent quite as much a old skewl has. Then again, I am really cheap.

I would, too...

But none of these cars interest me in the slightest in stock form. I'd rather not molest a cream puff like that. I'll settle for a straight body and a decent interior.

Haha, nice try Mark! Remove the L28?! Sacrilege! If that's what you're gonna put it in I definitely won't sell it! :-) (The VG is a downgrade, IMHO...I mean, it's ok in a z31, but not in an S30!)

Does seem like a lot for the money. I'm always weary of modded cars though. I just never feel completely secure that it's done right.

Just to add another completely biased comment:

Obviously the Supra. There really is no competition here. Inexpensive to maintain, straightforward, serviceable parts that the backyard/hobbyist mechanic can tackle, perfect body lines, lots of fun bolt-on mods/great aftermarket, handles well, decent power-to-weight ratio. (And whoever said oil changes are hard, that's total BS. If I can do it, so can you.)

The best car to be behind the wheel of all day, even in heavy traffic, but even better on the highway. Not to mention you can be averaging 80mph and getting 19mpg (even with larger injectors and wide rear tires), only slightly worse than my Samurai (which averages a constant 20, city or highway). It gets around 14 city, but then again, my friend's Subaru wagon only gets 16 city, so wouldn't you rather spent slightly more at the pump to drive a Supra rather than a lame wagon? But of course you would.

Have their little quirks but pretty durable and well engineered (strangely comparable to a VW in this way, I think). Has all the luxuries and conveniences that you never thought you needed, but will suddenly find yourself unable to live without. Crazy modules and lights on timers like the light around the key hole that's on a timer, the fact that the lights automatically shut off when the doors are shut, no key in the ignition so you won't kill your battery.

Get the 7MGTE, though. It is a completely different car. I test drove five different Supras after finding mine initially, and had no interest at all in the na version.

Plus, it gets a lot of attention. I get teenagers in hondas trying to race me all the time :) it's funny!

The others: RX7: only with an LS swap, otherwise have fun with apex seals. Starion: hideous. Looks like it wishes it were a Supra, but someone messed up in the engineering process. Can you even find parts for these? 300ZX: Okay, pretty decent, I don't know much about them because I have zero interest. Looks ok though.

I say Supra. Just don't get a maroon one like you pictured in your original post, get a nice silvery blue or white one, please. I found a decent non-abused turbo for $2222k, needed a little work, but its almost done, and I'll be racing next month! Most have had headgaskets done already, failures were from improper torque specs from the factory Just make sure you buy one with the ARP head studs and metal gasket done and papers to prove, or just do it yourself, and you'll be set for the next 100k.

The only problem would be though that you'll want it for more than a DD, you'll be heading to the next AutoX, trust me ;)

I drove past a nice looking '84 Supra today with For Sale signs on it, but immediately realized that it was a Supra L.

I wasn't even motivated to stop and check the price on the window. It's not on Craigslist. If anybody in the Connecticut area is looking for one, I can swing by tomorrow and see if it's still available.

I was wondering when you would chime in here since you're a new Supra owner. It was actually your purchase of the blue Supra that started me down this road, I figure if someone else gets to have some 80's turbo fun, why not me also? How are the door seals and window sweeps holding up on that car?

I hate to tell you this also, but you're also wrong in your post. The Starion is without a doubt, the best looking car of the bunch, 80's boxy angles and deep dish wheels, trump everything.

I will say that right now it's looking like the Supra will be the one I get, unless a really nice Star/Quest falls into my lap.

Ewwww ew ew Starion NOOOOO!!! lol

Boxy was good on VWs, sure, but I like the wide stance and sweeping lines of my Supra, thank you very much ^__^

I am glad that I inspire you!! Let me continue:

And honestly, I live in Portland, Oregon: rain city. I have no leaks. Now, mind you, I am sure that as soon as I remove the roof and try to put it back on, this may not be the case. Not going to stop me from... umm... taking her top off, though ;)

And honestly, the Supra makes life just so much more enjoyable. I mean, I am totally on new car high still, despite spending the first 4 nights of ownership neglecting my homework to work away well into the evening hours fixing her up to proper working order. (Sitting for extended periods of time in storage takes a toll for sure.) But can't get enough of it.

No matter what you get... get something!! Despite the Starion's unfortunate appearance, is there really such a thing as a bad 80's turbo'ed Japanese muscle car? I don't think so? Maybe that would make another good topic.... ;)

Keep badmouthing the Starquest, and we're gonna have problems.

First 'fast' car I ever rode in(at 12), and have loved them since. I'd still have to have one with an RB swap or something, though.

Let me tell you something fun about the StarQuest.

People use the transmissions from mitsubishi powered B2600s to make a RWD 4g63 setup to go in StarQuests. (Or TII transmissions, B2600 bell)

The next "logical" step is to use the transmission from a Mazda powered B2600 and bolt that sumbitch to an F2T.

Voila. F2T powered StarQuest. It's just that easy.

berkeley. I just scared myself. This needs to happen.

small bit o' confusion... Mine is NOT the Coroquest... although I am running 170+hp emissions compliant 4AGE. None of my body mods are quite that extensive/expensive........
