If someone says M badge on a BMW that's demerits.

Not exactly "M badge"

take a standard E36 Coupe.

Add M bumpers and wheels:

US market E21s are easy to upgrade the appearance with a simple bumper tuck.

To this

But looks even better with Euro bumpers or an Alpina facia.

It’s amazing what kind of difference it makes when you take an ‘80s car and add the classic formula:

  • dechrome
  • color-match trim
  • lower the ride height
  • box fenders
  • deeper front+rear valences
  • trunk lip spoiler
  • 3-piece wheels

You can go from this boring, old-man car ...

... to this piece of badassery

Another example. The 300CE coupe is handsome (if a little nerdy) in stock form...

... but give it the ‘80s AMG formula.

See? Totally transforms the car.

I was thinking 1st Gen MR2 without spoiler vs with spoiler.

Think this is the winner

I think the trabant looks pretty good in green

But looks absolutely amazing with bigger bumpers, black paint, a white roof, white walls, and chrome trim...

The top one is also hurt by the unpainted side skirts that the early ones had, but I have always loved the LTW wheels on the E36 M3. I also liked the M Contours, but damn were they heavy.

Then I’ll go back to the Mercury Marauder. Aesthetically, they’ve pretty much just blacked out the grille and added bigger wheels.

Also, pretty much any British roadster looks cooler after you’ve unbolted the bumpers and windshield.

Random idea; E21 with square headlights?  The body is so upright and boxy, I think the four round lamps look kind of lost and small, almost like a US market 90's Integra, but worse somehow.  A single square headlight on each side, like a boxy S10's lamp, might look pretty good in there.  Maybe?

That picture of the MR2 is probably the winner in here. I've never even seen one without the wing thing. The addition of the OEM optional spoiler seems to really suit certain cars like the 350z and s2000. The both have very rounded trunks without it. For some reason almost none of the s2k's I see don't have it. Fortunately my S has one.

For instance the z:

S2000:

Funny, I don't recall seeing that spoiler on an S2000. The spoiler on the 350z in the pics above looks very odd when you aren't looking at the whole car. I do think it ends up adding a little something when you see the car as a whole.

While I'm not usually a big wing guy I think the Nismo version looks the best.

It's been done and is not a good look at all in my opinion.

And, any of the early Ford Fox chassis sedans need more wheel and tire. A Fairmont or Granada goes from Grannys car to sorta cool. with wheels.

The 82 Thunderbird was worst of all for tire.
