What do you all make of this?

This is the stock turbo I just pulled off of the Saab.

That's pretty much what my turbo has looked like every time I've taken it apart.

This photo was prompted by a throttle body screw failure (ingested by the motor, went through the turbo, trashing it), but the color is what I've seen every time:

But the blow was making the car faster.

Thanks guys, I won't worry about it.

Looks like ash to me, something I'd expect to find on something that sees combustion residue and extreme heat.

Looks like a normal clean burn to me. Just as you'd find on the head of the exhaust valve. If it's white all is good if black to rich, if none or pitting to lean and detonating is a danger.

So in other words, you would never see this kind of residue on a Biturbo because it requires the engine to have been running?

A friend of mine would have similar residue from running 100LL in his car for track days as he explained it to me.
