Who here is new to the forum?

I know that we're getting new people all the time, and sometimes those new people are a little shy to jump into the conversation. She here's a thread for all of the new people.

First, welcome to the forum and thanks for joining us.

Now you get to tell us a little bit about yourself.

I guess I'll kick it off since I still think I'm new. I've been here one year, although I wish I knew about grm (magazine at least) 10 years ago. My name is Wade and I'm currently a machining student that will graduate in May to join the workforce and hopefully be in the automotive field, I've been building cars and making junk since I could stand and now am trying to make that a career. I love this forum and all the member here are great, most forums seem like a bunch of pissed off old guys and young "experts" but this place is full of genuine guys with a ton of knowledge about a little of everything.

I joined a few years back but just started posting in July when I decided to do the Challenge. My name is Michael but I got Stampie as a nickname in the Air Force and most people call me that. Was a long time classic Cadillac guy (1960 - 1970) but been branching out into off roading and Miatas lately. I loved the Challenge because it made me change my thinking from just buying the parts to hey I can make that part.

Joined this summer, so I guess I count as new. My name's Nick (go figure), I live in Central New York. Went to college at NADC and have been a General Motors technician for 4 years now. I'm into Miatas and compete in the CNY SCCA region with the car in my profile. My main love is musclecars, but can't really afford them, so Japanese cars it is for the time being. Always looking for car people in the area to hang out with, as central NY isn't a huge car hotspot.

I joined earlier this year but still count as new I guess. Name is Doug and I'm studying mechanical engineering. Been working alternating semesters and will be doing the full 5 year program. I like all things vintage, car wise I love the styling of 70's/80's japanese cars. No formal training or car people in the family but I'm learning how to fix and update things one paycheck at a time. Love the forum and the creativity here.

Hey, I'm Travis. I like cars.

I've attended the Challenge since 2012 but only been on the forum for a year. In college I was a leader of Wreck Racing, Georgia Tech's own premier collegiate $20XX Challenge team (because FormulaSAE just ain't GRM enough). I worked on past Challenge cars such as the 2010-winning 1UZ V8 Miata, the turbo 2JZ Midget, and most recently the SVX-powered Honda Insight thingamajig. Seriously, how did we ever get school funding for this E36 M3?

My first time drag racing was behind the wheel of the largely untested and incredibly unstable turbo MG Midget and it was a blast. I regularly get my ass handed to me in CAM when I autocross a mostly stock El Camino but I love it. I'm building an Aristocrat-worthy Buick Roadmaster Challenge car a year too late after that whole thing was cool (seriously guys...now mini-vans?). I've been out in the real world for a year now and have no idea what I'm doing, so I mostly lurk on the forum and sporadically update my Roadmaster build thread.

This is the best place on the internet hands-down.

I've been around for 2 years I think? I post dumb stuff but continually learning.

I've just starting posting although I've been reading the mag since it was Auto-X. I' m the old guy who daily drove the s2000. I'm a retired federal employee who moved from the DC area to NC for the sports car roads. Last week I replaced the s2000 with a 2013 911 Carrera. Although I love the Porsche, I kinda miss the simple goodness of the Honda.

I have been lurking on the forums for a while and enjoying all the build threads. I just joined a couple months ago. I am in awe of some of the skill and knowledge that you all have. Hope to some day do the challenge.

Yes, we have a heck of a group. Even if you're not a master fabricator, there's still a place for you at the Challenge. All comers are welcome.

I have been a member since spring of 14. Retired after turning wrenches professionally since 65 and teaching automotive technology at a college since 82. I was a certified British Leyland mechanic in the 70s. After owning over 100 cars to date, including muscle cars, sports cars, 4x4s and orphans, I am still on the hunt for something new or different. Main interest at the moment is the NB that is hibernating (Minnesota) and a TR 3A I am working on for a friend.

I registered this past April.

Mainly because the other couple forums I'm on are so slow, and this place is great for seeing a bit of everything.

Also to share my Mazda2 fabricated strut housing build to get some criticism and setup advise.

I'm an ASE master tech who works on all makes and models. Build a big Jeep on 40s and D60/70 first before getting into autocross.

Hi, name's Rob. Apparently I joined the Forum back in 2008 but I didn't really start posting until 2010 so I'm newish right? Kinda like the functional dis-function here, it fits my mindset.

Ok, so I (Joe) originally joined back in 2008! Post so very little, but read a lot. I must also admit that I just signed up for a two year sub so I don't have to search the stands any longer.

Family and work keep me so occupied that I just sold my last two aircooled projects. So now I live vicariously thru others on this board.. Ah well, hopefully time will again find its way into my life and I can get another toy (yeah, I read almost every "what car" thread I see) probably when I retire in just a, hopefully, few short years.

I agree with others that comment on the camaraderie on this forum. Very much like a garage full of folks sharing ideas or drinks and occasionally giving each other a hard time. It's all good.

I forgot my first username but I am not sure I ever posted with it...joined again in '11 mostly to sell a few GRM-priced vehicles and parts as I began purging stuff I had accumulated too much of. Trying to stay on top of that, because it means I have room to actually use my garage. Surprise.

Recently started paying more attention again and posting more since my kid is 3 and I actually have a little time to work on things (and read) again. Have owned about...18? cars in 14 years of driving, and the first 14 cost around a grand. Turnover has slowed down lately and we have had the same two DD's plus a Miata for the past 3 straight years. Shocking. Apparently when you start buying $3k cars instead of $800 ones, they last a lot longer. Currently own a pretty quick STS Miata, a newly acquired pile of E36 M3 rallyx Miata that is well under challenge budget, and a 2003 Vibe GT and 2002 Impreza wagon that serve as grown-up vehicles. Sorta.

I'm pretty seriously autocrossing at this point and plan to run nationals next year, kinda got hooked on rally-x again after a bit of a hiatus, aaaand need to go bracket racing sometime soon because I miss that dearly. It's been about 8 years and every time I run a SCCA ProSolo I start jonesing for the drag strip again.

I traded a bicycle for a car and decided to just jump in and do the $2014 challenge. I joined the forum right after. In the past year being on this forum I have been to 10 autox events and built a dedicated challenge/autox car. One of the best decisions I have made was to join this forum.

I have only been on for just over a year. My name is Thomas, I'm 16, and I used to have a G-body. Now I'm saving up for a sixth generation Civic so that I can learn how to drive stick. My dad and I just got an 07 Matrix to share, but other than that, I guess I'm kinda boring.

Maybe I'm not new but I feel like a newbie next to all the folks that have been on here for years and years and years.

I joined in 2013 so I could post a build thread to show off a 924 project and get advice about said crappy Porsche. A couple years later: that car technically belongs to my brother and is still sitting in the garage at my parents house.

I'm a music teacher, which I love, but a music teacher salary doesn't leave a lot of extra money to spend on car projects so I like the GRM mindset of "Make it instead of pay for it." I try and apply that philosophy to my music hobby and career as well as the car hobby but I know I'm limited by my lack of fabrication skills. I learn something new every day on this forum.

I have an odd love for the 80s and 90s domestic cars from my childhood: Fox platform Fords, Saturns, Geo Metros, Escort GTs, the early F150 Lightning - all that good stuff.

I've never been to the challenge but I'm planning to bring something next year just for fun.

I joined about a year ago but I don't post much. I mostly just lurk a lot learning from the collective. I spent 4-5 years autocrossing my 08 Civic Si coupe then bought a 04 z06 to do track days. After an expensive summer of this and lurking here, I sold it and bought a 2000 miata. I'm probably going to start a build/progress thread soon. Looking forward to pestering the knowledge ones on all things miata related.

I build locomotive traction motors for a living, just waiting for someone to pick me up as a race car driver. Since I'm damn near 45, that probably ain't gonna happen, but a fella can dream, right?

Until then, I'll just keep putting way too much money into the 'Mont, autocrossing, and tracking.

I found this forum because this forum found me. One of my buddies messaged me that I was famous. Apparently someone posted a pic of my car at an autocross, so I joined to check it out. It sucked me in, and I haven't been able to leave.
