Helping my middle son change a oil pan gasket on his XJ and these were in the gasket package. I've never seen them before, but then again, I've never changed a oil pan gasket with the engine in the car before either.
Simply brilliant. I owe someone a beer.
Got to love an engine that has more main bearings than rod bearings. It's no wonder these things last forever.

I first remember seeing them around 10-15 years ago. They are an excellent idea, and someone does deserve a beer for them.
I think its a Fel-Pro thing

Don't say that too loud around the piston skirts, they can hear you. I think that's why my XJ is on engine number two.

Yup. Early 4.0s (95 and older) are rock solid. The later ones have piston skirt issues, then they added the 0331 head issue on top.
How long did you wiggle the pan before you discovered the "magic angle" that allows the pan to clear all the lines and slide out?
In reply to pinchvalve (Forum Supporter) :
We had to drop the front axle to install a suspension lift so there was plenty of room to work with. Very little wiggling was required. Tying the trans lines back for the install made it pretty easy to get back together as well.
Felpro has been doing it on their OP gaskets since at least 1998 that I can remember.
Those little clips are rad. They were a lifesaver when I did the pan gasket on my 5.0 F150.
Fun fact. You can buy the clips separately.
