Guy I know has a TR7 5 speed transmission, believed to be in working condition.  He wants it gone by 11/14 or he scraps it.  Your's Free if you come get it in NW Arkansas before next Wednesday.

Is there an adapter plate to bolt this to a more common engine?

None I'm aware of, but if I was local I'd scarf it up.  I'm hardheaded and don't see why it can't be made to fit in a Spitfire.

Early ones had smaller main bearings.  Later ones were better and can handle more power.  If there is a chance it came out of an 81, then it had the better 5th gear ratio.  The early ones are OK for 4 cylinder wedges and worth $100 or slightly more.  For the V8 wedges, stick to the later versions which are worth more like $175-250.  The 81s fetch a decent price but they are real hard to come by.  You could probably get close to $500 for one of those.  If it came out of a running car and you will swear it is in good shape, someone will buy it.  If you grab the input shaft and it moves around, just scrap the thing.  Costs too much to rebuild one.  Post it over on the Triumph Experience in the TR7/8 section.  I probably have 15 to 18 of them in my basement now and another 10 to 12 in running cars and a couple of parts cars.  Pretty decent transmission, but nothing exists to use them behind anything other than TR7 2.0, Rover V8, and Jaguar straight 6 as far as I know.  There are better more common transmissions out there for swap fodder.

That all is probably why it's heading for the scrap yard Wednesday, Todd. I have enough Toyota transmissions laying around, and I am well over my Triumph phase by about 4 decades.

Life of a car guy problems.  I just went out into the garage looking at engines trying to figure out the differences between early and late 4.6L Rover V8s.  I looked at 9 different Rover engines, kicked aside another half dozen Buick/Olds versions, and never went up to the second floor where "all" of the engines are stored.  At least I found the new cam I have been looking for for over a year now.  Turns out the engine builder put it and a new timing gear set on the 4.6 he built for me.  Its been bagged waiting for its install into a TR8 coupe. I thought it was just the short block.
