You ever driven one of those?
You will regulate it to Cars and Coffee real quick.
They suck.
Great idea, great application, horrible in the final result.

Well... Woody is a fireman, so he may have.
But otherwise, I tend to agree - most fire engines are designed for short range trips.
In reply to Ian F:
My VFD had one of that model ALFs. We hated using the thing.
I feel sorry for Pro Firefighters that had to deal with them.
I am sure the new ones are better but those suck.
I kinda like my getting pushed around in my '48, it steers amazingly easy for as big as it is. It's a single layer of steel skin, though, and the cab back is an afterthought, so I can't imagine how loud it's going to be at speed under its own power.
Do these have the completely insane two stroke diesels? I can't decide if I want one of those or not.
Not for me thank you.
As a 16 year driver in the fire service, I'd rather have a punch in the nose than have to drive an old ladder truck any distance. Those things were crude and rough. And, they were usually powered by 2 stroke Detroits. My ears are ringing just thinking about it.
I can't even imagine how much metal you'd have to cut away to build the ramp section. At least 62 Harbor Freight angle grinders worth.
Mine had a 472(?) flathead v12 gas engine, but most were converted to diesels when they had troubles.
Rather than just saying they suck to drive, many of us would like to know a little more detail. Difficult to steer, noisy, slow, uncomfortable, or what?
(When I was in college I had a job driving a beat up and worn out 1965 GMC cabover truck; anything over a ten mile trip in that thing was a lot of work, but I still thought it was fun. However, 40 years later I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much as I did back then.)

^^^^^This.
If it's just a noise thing, apply a bit of Dynamat to the cab and it should be tolerable no?
2-stroke diesel temperemental?
Need more details!
Let's see here.
Loud, rough, uncomfortable, slow acceleration past 30 mph, touchy brakes, engine issues (two stroke diesel, flat head or continental), the steering was "interesting".
If you could take the front cab off and put it on a more suitable chassis it would be great, because they look awesome.
You can't Dynamat a hole in the back, no design for NVH. The wind noise alone would make you deaf.
Im guessing that partly why the new ones all run intercom systems?
Is it bad I have been wanting something with a two stroke diesel???
