We just got home from the $2009 Challenge. Calvin is already starting to measure up the $2010 car. The truck isn't even cooled down yet.
so Paula's car will be 2011, right?
Yes. Not enough room in the barn to work on it now.

corvair, OTOH, not so much....
If there were cool factor points, you would have finished top three AC.

So, a lot of potential challenge cars I've looked at have broken windshields. I know that other people have to have run into this as well. What is the cheapest way to replace a broken windshield without dropping $200 on a new one.
Has this issue ever been addressed? I didn't see anything in the rules aside from it can't be cracked, but I'm pretty sure we ran the Civic unknowingly with a 6" crack or so and no one said anything...
I am preparing for it the same way I did for all the previous Challenges: I am wishing I had some $$$ to enter something. I am eagerly awaiting the posts and websites to pop up. And I can't wait for the coverage in the Magazine! Perhaps they will move the date away from the only week on the calendar that I have a standing annual appointment that I cannot get out of and I can actually get there!

I ran my Swift with a cracked winshield in the 2005 Challenge. The tech guys looked carefully at it but passed it. Has the rule changed since then?
So, I have a rules interpretation question. I saw some wheels and tires on craigslist for $50/obo or trades. I sent the guy an email with some stuff I had to trade. He emailed me back and said he didn't need anything I listed but was tired of getting spam email and that if I wanted them I could just have them. So, the question is, do they count as free or do I have to count them as $50 since that's what they were advertised for?

I would say you just happened to be in the right place at the right time- $0.
Just to be sure, pay him $1 and get a receipt.
Sounds like a right place, right time kinda thing as the deal was open to anyone. Lucky.
My religious craigslist scouring is starting to pay off, we're picking up some good stuff. Searchtempest ftw.

One did 9th place overall in 2005, 2nd in the autocross.
He also competed in 2009 and the car is really nice
Toyman keeps prodding me to build something with him. Dammit, he might get me cranked up yet.

GUNDY's car did quite well in '06. Can't find a pic at the moment.

I'm out :(. It turns out a friend that I've pretty much grown up with is getting married that weekend. However, I will still have a car there to receive ever loving Hong abuse while I'm having a blast elsewhere :).
It'll be the first time in 5 years I will have missed a Challenge. However, work begins in January!
I think that I'm going to be able to trade some parts that I paid $50 for, for a fiberglass 1-piece front end.
May be ready for $2010, if not $2011 doesn't look good; kid's getting married the same weekend. He would understand me no showing his wedding, Mrs. 914 not so much.
You guys will still be in business for $2012 won't you? I mean Tim and Margie will be lying on a beach somewhere and Tommy (now just Tom) will be driving, but the magazine will be around, correct?

tell Ian to man up and change the wedding date. alternative would be to get married at gainesville raceway.

She's a JAP from Long Island. What't the difference between her and a jet engine?
I kid, I kid.....
Imagine a reception in the parking lot...... what a memory, for the few who can recall it

Ok, I have an idea for next year...actually multiple ideas. One could do really well, one would probably be just for kicks. The problem is going to be time. Too many house projects that I can't neglect this year.
Either way, I'm bringing something. Can't wait to see what everyone else brings down there.
Most of my garage work is done. Probably digging into the car after holidays.
Same boat as Pat, house projects... but I still will make time for the 2010 car and my own personal track car rebuild of sorts.
Just dropped $800 at Sears today to get our shop up to par now that we've got two cars in it and more volunteers.
Lot of money, but some amazing sales. If anyone needs tools, I recommend going NOW if the sales are through the end of the day in your area. I think we saved over $200 on all we bought.
And that wasn't even counting any fabrication stuff we need.
