Car is in my buddies garage and his car is in my garage. So I need to get that issue corrected first. But I'm hoping to start a post about it and start on it this weekend.
First project on the list make 3 seats into 2. Isn't that where everyone starts on a non running car project.

We've got the car (Wartburg), we've got an increasing pile of parts (unspecified).
If we can get it completed in 8 months for BABE
and if it survives BABE
and if it then survives Lemons
then we will try to spruce it up and complete the TOC at GRM.
It's going to be a long year.

You missed if we all survive.
In reply to JThw8:
I saw it at Lemons, looks pretty solid to me :)

Well with us that's always just assumed.

Sadly it is very solid, I was hoping it would be a bigger mess so I wouldn't feel bad about butchering it. The fact that we got it running makes it even harder. Its a few brake lines away from being streetable.

I've prepped every year for Challenge for the last several years. The only thing that held me back is I never progressed from prep to buying and building a car. I think the first issue of GRM that I bought was a Challenge issue.

I know where there is a Opel with some box flares sitting as well as the
gen IV LS motor sitting in my garage that cost me $450.
The tow car officially is fixed(for a little while) maybe just maybe this week will see some work on the car.
I have all the parts for my build.... I think?
Now I just actually have to build it.
We just got home from the $2009 Challenge. Calvin is already starting to measure up the $2010 car. The truck isn't even cooled down yet.

Darn it.... I figured I could do some prep tonight and try to at least "start" before you.

Your are 1 hour 51 minutes behind already. I am looking out the window and I see legs sticking out from under a car and tools that.....Hey thats my tool box!
I had to come in a post this...way too funny not to share. I strolled downstairs, planning to go out and see what Calvin is up to, and get stopped by Paula. She says, "You better go out there...Calvin is putting tires on the Studebaker." What?!?!? I walk out there and there is a pile of parts sitting outside the open barn door. And he has the jack lines up so he can put the tires onto the Stude and get it out of the way so He can work on His Challenge car.
It's likely to be a few years before I can start work on my own challenge car, but I am willing to help people and hopefully next year I can make the trek down to spectate.

I met my 2010 car for the first time when I got home from the Challenge Sun about 1:00. Spent several hours working on it the same day.
I've also got plan B underway.
well, I'm still down here in Fl and have drawn up a playbook for 2010's buildup.
I've played the joker/loser for the last 3 years..next year the jokes on you....
Car #1 should be done by June and if possible car #2 could be finished by August.
Have already ordered a few critical parts needed for #1.
I did get something done the 262 is 10 bolts and the clutch linkage away from being ready to pull out. In one of the many many boxes of monza crap John gives me every time I see him I found this:
History FTW
I guess this is my introductory post, I'm Jake with Texas A&M. I'm the project manager for our 2010 entry.
Although our first official meeting isn't until Friday, as soon as we got back from the banquet, we tore open the beer and started brainstorming our next car. We probably cycled through seven or eight completely different ideas on the 18 hour drive home over the two-way radios.
Haven't decided what we're going to be run, but we'll have an all-new car out, and the "Howdy" EG Civic is going to be back with a vengeance also.

I don't know if we can make room for new rods in the budget, but slicks and copious amounts of boost are in the plans. That little turbo had a pretty ferocious exhaust leak pre-turbine that needs to be addressed, but she was still putting out 20psi with no wastegate or boost controller. We're going to bring our own drag slicks next year, the advantages are pretty apparent. That, and some pretty awesome aesthetic changes, now that we see how the game is played.
Thanks for all the complements, the community we discovered blew away any hospitality expectations we thought we had. Team Gutty sure showed us the definition of good sportsmanship with their help at the drag strip on Saturday. We've already got the funding secured and the planning has begun for our 2010 car as well.
Bouncing around ideas for next year. Will probably not really get started until I get the tax return at the beginning of the year.
This was my first year. Learned a lot by seeing and watching the other cars. Kind of threw a car together just to make it this year.
My wife has gotten the car bug and is shopping for next years car on craigslist. She's also shopping for tow vehicles since driving down and back didn't really go as planned this year.
I thought that I was the only one sick enough to drive 16 hours home from the Challenge, arrive home at 10:00 PM and be looking for cars on Craigslist at 11:00!
I don't know if I am comforted by this group or scared!!
in the process of looking for a car, team-mates, money...
