Wasn't it in the 04 challenge? I thought I recognized that 2.2 sticking out of the hood as soon as I saw it.
Yeah, I thought I saw that at the '04 challenge. Can't for the life of me remember who it was though.
Is that Dodge 2.2 the turbo monster? If so, I see HUGE possibilities for this car... And a turbo sticking out where that air cleaner is, would definitely be one of them.
That 2.2 is from an early Dakota and is carb'd. I remember seeing pictures of the car from the 03 challenge talk around here. Always curious about what happened to it.
The stock turbo exhaust manifold would likely cause the turbo to hit the frame or control arm (same issue with the Dakota)
One solution would be to use an exhaust manifold from a Dakota and weld a turbo mounting flange on the end of it. Then cut and weld a stock turbo intake to move the throttle body to the front. Potential there is about 300hp if you can find an appropriate turbo.
Another is to convert the block to use a 2.0/2.4L DOHC head so that the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides, then you can probably use an SRT-4 exhaust manifold, or again, build your own. Potential there is 400+hp.
Personally? I'd take the Mopar Performance Supercharger kit I have in the loft and put that on the existing engine and enjoy the noise and the 150hp.
However, the stock Dakota 4-cylinder transmission isn't known for its strength, luckily it is practically a straight swap to an R-154 based transmission.
