Current steed is an '07 R1200GS Adv. It's a civil beast, and super versatile for touring, light off-road, camping... even a little canyon carving - but it's an SUV of a bike. Stop/Go city traffic is ponderous and because it's really wide - forget lane splitting or taking advantage of a half a lane to scootch by a 1000 cars waiting in summer beach traffic.
The FZ-09 is tiny, naked, light, flickable... 120hp 3 cyl. So yeah. An upright sport bike that I don't need to sit on my heels to hoon around on. Plus - I think it's sexy. And pretty cheap.
30k is what I've seen some really nice Ls swapped miatas going for. There's one on flying Miata right now and another on v8 miatas
What about an SV650 track rat/around town/touring trio?
M5 with money left over for goodies?

Friend of mine has an FZ-09 and absolutely loves it. Touring bike when you want it to be, sport bike when you want it to be and hoon bike when you crack the throttle
