Where does he live?
Asking because Uber is a better choice for many.
In reply to M030:
Well, those tests etc make me think I'd trust him more than most teens out there.
And kudos to you for taking my and others recommendations (that were contrary to what you were looking for) so well.
I need to clarify: originally, I said he "refuses to stop driving". That was not an accurate statement. In fact, despite the clearance to drive by his team of doctors, he electively stopped driving on the street. He had a near miss with the convertible top up, and it scared him enough to park the car. We are hopeful that with a car that sits up high enough and has good enough visibility, that he can get himself around again. Über is expensive where he lives, and we (his family) all either live too far away to be chauffeurs, or have full-time jobs ourselves that preclude us from doing that.
It sounds like he should have a car, then. It's an important freedom and he's fought for it well.
Subaru Impreza hatchbacks are old enough designs to still be goldfish bowls.
In reply to chaparral:
I agree completely and appreciate the constructive answer to my initial question. In this case, Subaru seems to be the answer. Now comes the fun part: car shopping
My dad is getting there. Pushing him into considering a vehicle with blis and parking sensors. Preferably with braking assist.
Get him something with all the driving aids. Lane departure, parking aid, brake assist. I've noticed old folks are terrible at those things.
