Ok, so today I started focusing my attention today underneath the (soon to be polished) hood.

First question is: Is there any drawback to removing the charcoal canister? Mind you my car has pretty much moved into full-on cone killin' mode and hardly sees any street duty, so the extra emmision of hydro-carbons should be negligible.

The reason I want to do that is this:

I want to move my intake to the passenger side so I can 1) get it away from the exhaust (Racing Beat headers will soon be added, Thus I'm assuming more heat will be too), 2) decrease underhood clutter, 3) run a snorkel into the cowl area a'la Randall style.

Please ignore the Rice A Roni tube for now, I'm just using that to get a path down before I fire up the TIG machine. Anybody see any potential problems with this?

Second question is some parts identity:

Airbag collision sensor? I have no bag so if it is it's coming out.

Part of the airbag harness? Are all blue connectors for the bag? Again, if so it's coming out also.

Thanks for any responses, especially you Keith as I'm sure you'll chime in.

BTW, Ordered and installed some FM sway bars this week. FM Swaybars = WIN, should be the first upgrade any owner does.......

All the airbag wiring is helpfully in a bright blue harness, and those orange/blue connectors are airbag stuff. So's the sensor by the hood latch.

As for the charcoal canister, it's my understanding that it's there to store the vapors from fuel tank expansion in the heat. In one case, I took the line to the canister and simply routed it into the subframe. Makes the car smell like gas all the time, and in a hot trailer I can see how this could be a real problem. Better choice might be to relocate it or get one of the smaller ones from an NB.

A longer intake tract might equal a bigger flow restriction. At the least, I'd try to max that sharp radius, although I might be being overly sensitive for a normally aspirated app... seeing's how Keith didn't say anything about it!
