I'll admit to not being a biker, but losing Buell does suck. I thought there stuff was cool.

The 1125R was $12,000. That's not really that bad.
Buell really needed their own dealerships, being in bed with HD didn't help them. Buell was an afterthought for the dealers, they don't stock anything for my blast aside from oil filters, pretty annoying. Buell turned HD engines into all they could be, he took the stock lump and turned it into something. The best of both worlds is the buell engine in the sportster frame.
Maybe I should keep my blast as a collectors item, it was the first year production with all the problems associated with that.
I know I'm keeping my Lightning. I'll do what I can as well to make sure Erik himself signs a part of that bike. Even if I have to mail my flyscreen to him with a post-it note attached: "sign me!".
Buell will rise again!!!! We buellers wont give up easily and i intend on riding mine till it gives out!!!! Big business sucks!!! Someday buell with return. Mabey from a new generation, or a different name; hopefully not. But someday it will return. Better than ever. Dont give up EB!!! Keep fighting!! You have supporters!!!!!
Buell hasd always been different from the start. zero compromise. Thats why i love em soooo much. They rock!!
"Buell revenue was $134.9 million in 2008 and $59.4 million in 2009 year-to-date. Capital expenditures related to Buell were $6.6 million in 2008 and $3.8 million September year-to-date." just found that on another site. Sounds like buell was still doing pretty damn good!! They were adapting to changes and cutting expenses.Harley is soo stupid. hd has never appealed to me and probly never will. Buell all the way!! First Awesome american built motorcycle!! GO BUELL!!
allied, it looks an awful lot to me like revenue dropped through the floor there in 2009. That's probably not a good sign. Do you even know what those numbers mean?
In reply to confuZion3: Yup. and that doesn't make any sense why they shut em down. it means profit was down by half but so was expenses. They were adapting to the economic state of things unlike hd, and gm and many, many others. They didn't deserve to go under. Im just sad to see em go under. Dont judge me. lol
You're right. I was looking through the 2008 financial statements for Harley Davidson. It actually looks like both divisions were making money. Net income was lower for Harley Davidson in 2008 than it was in 2007, but it was still positive. Additionally, while sales of the big bikes were down, Buell sales increased that year. It all looked pretty good for Buell.
I guess 2009 was a different story.
I'm not judging! Welcome aboard, by the way!
Capital Expenditure is not costs, COGS, etc. I haven't looked at their statements, because I really don't care enough to invest an hour of my time reading bean counter jiberish, but I would venture to say that either they were losing money as a division or projections said they would be shortly with little sign of a turn around. 2K8 was not 2K9 either.
Financing new bikes plays big in this too. So many of the RUBs and YUPPIES bought bikes they couldn't afford. If they're walking away from their house, what do you think they did with that $25K bike loan? Also, I'm not entirely sure HD liked being in the sport bike business. Statements made regarding $40 T shirts and $500 pre-worn out leather jackets are unfortunately accurate.
We'll have to wait for the 2K9 financial statements to come out to get a better picture. Then you have to read the notes at the end of the statement in the little print and not big print spin to find out what's really going on.
the local Hardley shop emailed me.....wanting to sell me a Buell 1125r / cr for $6995
$5K off what they wanted last year.....WTF holy markup

Seriously? That is an astounding motorcycle for 7 grand. That's like SV650 money. And a couple grand LESS than a Monster 696 or Street Triple. If they were really selling it for that price they were undoubtedly losing at least 3-4k on it.
Sounds like they were trying to rip you off :

If I were in the market for a speedy bike I'd buy one of those now. I doubt there are any Ulysses left on the lot. If anyone finds one....lemme know.
Local Harley dealer had a police package Uly they were selling for $7,000. Smoking good deal but at the wrong time for me.
I loves me the Ulysses. If I can cruise on the Lightning, I can only imagine the crazy hauls I can do on one of those babies.
John Brown wrote: Buell needs to start up an American Ducati type company. You know, nice fast boutique bikes with a deep racing heritage. Screw H-D
Where are they going to get the :\"deep racing heritage" that you speak of? Sure they bought, I mean won a AMA championship this year, but they were racing with twice the cc of their competition.
I don't hate Buells, I was considering one before I bought my Monster. But they do do somethings just for the sake of being different, not to make the product any better.
