I raced these competitively when I was a kid. I just found out that a track has opened up nearby.
I am very excited, and tore open my old junk to build a car to play with.
They have a few classes where ye olde chassis will do nicely. This could be fun.

That and model railroading are a rabbit hole that it is very difficult to stop myself from falling down. maybe after I retire.

RC cars are another really deeeeeeeeep hole. I keep focusing on that rather than the GIANT pile of Lionel in my closet. OG E36 M3, most of it is older than my dad.

RC stuff is $$$, at least slot cars can be cheap. I've done both as a teen.

I remember 1/24 and 1/32 "womp womp" slot cars in the 70's and early 80's as a kid. I had a killer HO set made from multiple sets and flea markets. I would love to get back into it, there's even a hobby shop in Dayton right down the street.
But it seems like there's multiple formats now & I'm out of the loop. Wouldn't even know what to get.
I've got a large Carrera 1/24 & 1/32 scale track, but I haven't set it up in years. Once I get my upstairs done, I might have to set it back up.
It is dangerous. We got my 11 year old a Carrera 1/32 set for Christmas. It came with 2 cars, we now have like 12 and are working on plans to replicate Mid Ohio in the basement.
Model Railroading is one of the deepest holes you can go down. Doesn't matter what scale, it's all expensive. You can always do stuff on a budget, but you're never satisfied.
I hope to get all my families Lionel collection, 95% of it is Post-War stuff.
I also have a ton of HO scale stuff. I built a 4x8 layout when I was teen and I used every cent of allowance money to build it. It was at least $500 by the time I got done. I can only imagine the tens of thousands of dollars people spend on these elaborate full basement layouts.
I could throw money at either slot cars or model railroading, but they both demand a good bit of space, and that's the sticking point, since a larger house in a better school district is not quite in the budget.
