if buying your first 1911 best bang for the buck would be a Springfield loaded. It's a trigger job away from the big money guns.

My buddy blew up a very high end one. The Navy armorers built him one with a super tight link for top accuracy. At the match, the match ammo was Israeli machine gun stuff, very hot. First round blew the pistol up in his hand. He had to borrow someone else's gun to shoot the match. He's the guy that got President's 100. Twice.

I wouldn't worry too much about stock trigger pull on a 1911. You can have them tuned to pretty much whatever you like for very little money.
1911s are kind of like small block Chevy or Ford V8s. As long as you use good parts and have a builder who knows what he's doing, it'll perform well.
Nothing to add, but it is probably a good thing I don't feel the need to pay NYS $200 for permission to get hand guns.
Good luck with your purchase, OP. Today I took my Colt 5" XSE (my carry gun) to the range because America.
Damn this was an expensive thread.
I picked up a 1911 Springfield Loaded Target 5' at the local shop today as they were having an invoice sale. 800$ OTD with 6 mags a case and holster with the deal springfeild was having. Also got a compact M&P 9mm shield for the wife ~230$ or so list after the invoice sale and the 75 mail in rebate. She wanted a Glock 41 but those are off register and closing in on 1400$ for a clean one used.
I withdraw my complaints about CCW of a 1911, I got to hold a 3' compact and a 4' officers and the 3' in particular you could use for sure. Also man 1911's have come a long way from the stuff I remember as a kid.
Also picked up a few K's of 9mm of range ammo at 14.8c a round in box new. That was the real deal. WIth the new regulations on buying ammo that start at the beginning of the year I am going to look like a prepper. I will have something on the order of 40-50K rounds. Which is what I shoot in about three years at my current rate.
Everything is in gun jail due to California reg's but gives me time to go out and find better grips and a few other pieces that I need.

Just tell your wife it's my fault. By me bringing up the topic of 1911's for concealed carry, you were compelled to do some personal research to validate or invalidate your opinions on the subject. I get blamed for a lot worse stuff...
I should pick my new Rock up early next week if I can get off work in time! It arrived at my local hardware store yesterday about 10 minutes before they closed so I couldn't get there in time.
She got her MP sheild out of the deal and she steals ammo from my stock. She will be just fine. If she likes the 1911 I will get a range officer for her in the 3 inch barrel to keep the weight down.
I have learned not to piss off swmbo as she can shoot pretty darn well.

Timing funny I just came into a Kimber Eclipse Target II.
God that thing is a Cadillac compared to my Compact. Should take care of the whistle pig issue quick enough. Though SWMBO will probably commender it pretty quick. She likes 1911s as much as I do, plus there's fancy night sights.
