One of the little throwaway stories on CBC was how 4 Canadians won the gold in bobsleigh in 1964- The Emery brothers and two friends went over to Innsbruck, and their speed secret was to replace the football shoes everyone else wore. They took bowling shoes and glued sheets of emery cloth to the soles. More tractioney for the start.
I'm guessing the name isn't coincidence.
