If i was running the Vikings, I would keep Darnold basically no matter the cost. There are so many highly drafted rookies that bust, the risk of sam leaving and JJ sucking is too much. While I do think Sam wouldn't be anywhere near this effective on a different team with worse coaching and worse weapons, KOC and JJ aren't going anywhere, so I see no reason to expect Sam to regress next year

Franchise him, if he finds success early in the year you can discuss a longer contract mid-year next year.
Id keep Darnold too, I don't know why various people seem to assume that JJ is gonna be better or the Darnold will regress. JJ is on a rookie contract and can sit awhile too, it's almost never bad to gave a young QB sit.
Darnold has played really well, there's no reason to give that up really.
I think Darnold knows that being on a bad team in a bad system means you'll play badly, remember he was on the Jets and Panthers and sucked so the Vikings, plus the 49ers a bit, saved his career.
Even if he gets another 5 mil elsewhere I can't see him jumping. Just playing very well means he'd probably make that up in endorsements alone, plus be happier not sucking somewhere. I don't see Darnold going yo a team like the Giants or the Raiders and having a great year.
Dunno if it's true or not ('cuz innernet) but I found a ranking of cap space for all 32 teams for 2025. I know that can change due to restructured contracts, etc. but I thought it was very interesting that the entire NFC North was in the best third of the whole league. IIRC GB #11, Det #8, MN #6 and Chi #5. New Orleans was dead last--they've got BIG problems for next year.
Watching George Kittle got me to thinking how the tight end position has expanded since I was a young 'un. I grew up in the 70s and there were good TEs at the time - Dave Casper, Kellen Winslow, Russ Francis, Riley Odoms to name a few. But none of those guys had the athleticism and pass catching ability of a Kelce, Kittle or Laporta.
Can someone explain how the loser of tonight's Lions vs Vikings game ends up a 5 seed?

Going into the game they're both 14-2 and in the same division. The winner will win that division, and each division winner gets spot 1-4, so they get next, spot 5.
Damn son, maybe now they'll STFU about how beat up the Lions defense is.

They played really well. Having Anzalone back helped a ton. They had Darnold seeing ghosts all night.
Now I just hope that Arnold's injury doesn't turn out to be serious. This bye week couldn't have come at a better time.
In reply to AngryCorvair (Forum Supporter) :
i don't know how much of the credit should go to the Lions defense and how much of the blame should go on Darnold for turning into a pumpkin, but that game did not go well for the Vikings. And if I were them, i would suddenly be really scared about playing next week and facing a first round loss
In reply to budget_bandit :
There's a good possibility that the Lions showed a D that turned Sam into a pumpkin. It may not be all his fault that he wasn't prepared for that.

The Lions' pass rush was intense all night.

Not sure who is floating these articles, but I have seen JJ trade rumors, due to the lack of hype in the 2025 QB room, I think there is more talent then Ward and Sanders, but I just remember how hyped the 2021 Draft was for Qb's and that draft class hasn't shown much at all in the NFL. Vikings could get ahead of the deal making by franchising him, but that would be a $50 Million cap hit and signing to a 3 year they can spread the money around. Who knows if other teams might want him, it will be interesting to see how he preforms in the playoffs.
My team the Browns earned a 2nd pick in the 1st round, I hope they go with the best player instead of QB or trade down take Leonard, Beck, Jaxson, Donvan Smith, in 3rd rounders.
I think both the Steelers and the Ravens were hoping for a Raiders win (knowing it was not happening) so they didn't play each other next week. It should be a great game, but both teams should be worried.
Lions round 2 presale opened at 10AM today, limit 2 per customer. I forgot to set an alarm, and joined the queue at 10:03.
berkeley.
It moved fast though, and the map showed a lot of lower bowl seats available.
Until I selected a pair and clicked NEXT. "Sorry, those tickets are no longer available. Please try different tickets." Or something like that. Over and over again, until I abandoned my hope of getting good seats and found success in the nosebleeds on the visitor side, three rows from the roof.
berkeley.
General sale begins at 2PM. Map shows a few pairs available in lower bowl, but there's another presale round from Noon to 2PM so I doubt there will be anything available by the time the poor people are allowed to try. Damn this oppression! 🤘🏻🤣

As a Steeler fan, I am not worried at all. It'll be an easy game, and the Ravens will have a nice tune up for their divisional round opponent.
One and done, yet again, for the black and gold.
Pretty wild to think we were rolling into October with the Bears at 4-2 and the Rams at 1-4.

You know, I don't really mind being all the way up towards the top. You get a cool overview of the whole game.

There were a few different ones and some social media threads. One was trading Darnold while he was doing good to the Raiders for Maxx Crosby actually.
I think they will go QB so they can figure out how to get out from Watson. Most the mock drafts I perused last night seem to think Cam Ward over Sanders.
My hope is the 49ers go for OL or DL but a few whispers seem to think they will go for Jeanty. I mean, they went thru 5rbs this year so I get it but the interior DL is horrid and at least 2 OL are near unplayable.

I don't follow the league that closely but I did take a glance at the anticipated free agents for next year. The Vikings, based on my superficial review, appear to have a boatload of upcoming free agents. If the rumors of their head coach being poached are true, then they could have an absolutely chaotic off-season.
In reply to stroker :
I cannot imagine the Vikings allowing KOC to get poached, to me that would just be absolute insanity. Maybe not Sean McVay yet (who is?) but one of the best offensive minds in the league by my count
I really don't think the Jauan Jennings blocks deserved him being tossed.
Also, it was pretty great blocking for a WR

Feels like when I was growing as a New England fan in the 80s and 90s...
I guess they made it to #1
My, how times have changed.
Since they lost by winning over the Bills last weekend, they are now #4 in the draft order. And owner Kraft canned Jerod Mayo pretty much on the spot after the game. New England is officially a fully engulfed, jet-fuel-fed dumpster fire again.
Did Mayo deserve to get canned? YES. YES HE DID.
While Kraft is ultimately to blame for putting him in this mess and being completely negligent and not supporting him with a staff that knows what they are doing, Mayo had one critical flaw: he did not instill a culture of accountability and winning. You can be terrible and be accountable, and neither he or the team were any of that at all. Put it this way: the players were lashing out at fans over the last few weeks of the season telling us to "know our role", and he did nothing to quell that. Then the players doubled down on the rhetoric; still nothing. He consistently threw other coaches under the bus and pointed fingers everywhere else. He just wasn't ready, and he didn't do himself any favors, either. I liked the guy as a player, but as a coach, he needs to develop a lot longer.
I have no idea where they go from here, but they have a good franchise QB to build around. If they get the right coach and staff AND get some people to support him on the field, they will be OK. I just don't know if/how they will accomplish that yet.
In reply to Tony Sestito :
I don't understand why they didn't just hire Vrabel, I guess they still have a option to now, but he has all the leverage because other teams want him, Vrabel will want control and would Kraft let that happen. Other then the Bills they are lucky that the jets and Dolphins typically suck.
