Just got back from a ten day vacation. We drove over 2900 miles, it cost us about $160.00 in fuel. I love my Honda now!
We stuffed it in a boat from Orient point NY to New London!

we cruised through the Berkshires and Catskills!

We saw Battle ships and submarines!

and a allot more...
but my favorite picture we took was of the Iwo Jima memorial in Fall River (next to Battleship cove!)

The Berkshires have some great, scenic driving roads. The wife and I took a road trip to the Mass Museum of Contemporary Art out there last summer--fantastic museum, BTW.
Glad you had a great trip. Some of it was very close to me.

Sounds like a good trip. I just took a trip of almost 5000 miles in my Subaru...it cost a bit more in gas.

It cost me about that to get 600 miles to the ferry last time I went to the U.K. Nice job!
I've borrowed one of those 1G Insights at an autocross a couple times. Replace the standard tyres with something sticky and they're pretty fun little beasties.

LOL!! I looked at the thread title and thought: "Damn, that sounds like a perfect setup for making a joke about my 2001 honda insight!"
Hello to my fellow Insight owner!
My fiancee and i just made a 1900 mile trip from San Marcos, Texas, to Colorado Springs, Colorado and back a few weeks ago. I believe we spent around $110. We averaged 47 mpg both ways.
Battleship Cove! I loved that place as a kid...
Did you stop to go aboard? Both were a trip.
Thats the USS Massachusetts, if i remeber right... can't remember the subs name.

At 2.75/ gallon, that's 50mpg. Not bad at all.

Nice pictures. (I just went 400 miles and filled up using $70; go pickup truck!)
It was one of the best trips we've had in a long time! The insight is a bit tight inside for a trip that long, and naps in the passenger seat arent the most refreshing, but you deal with it with a pillow and a sore neck and back.
If i had "efficiency " tires, Im sure we'd of got a bit better mpg's, but it does handle better with a plus one tire imo.
luckily, we were able to plan it so the longest run was florida to virginia on the way up, after that, all the following stops were five hours max, then a day or two of visiting, then another three or four hour run, etc. the trip home was a straight run from upstate NY to FL, of about 22 hours, which was tiring. But its okay to be tired when you get home :)
We did do all of battle ship cove, and it was awesome. they let you just go without supervision, and we climbed through all the ships. I spent a good half hour talking to a retired radioman (who was there as a volunteer repairing some equipment) in the Kennedy's radio room, and he showed me all the equipment and told a few great stories! The sub is the Lionfish, commissioned late , but saw some action in the sea of Japan, and came home with a few broomsticks.
in no particular order :We hung out with my best freind (known since I was five) at the Clam shack by the water in East Islip, ny (close to where i grew up), had Pizza at Angela's on Long Island, did some Hiking around a mountaintop Lake, ate lunch at Flows in providence. Spent an afternoon in Woodstock, rode a racing quad, visited a petting zoo, but most importantly, got to spend time with friends and family... all for less than what gas alone would have cost in my truck.

That's a great picture of the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi. I've always loved that monument, and the story behind that battle is amazing.
Big thumbs up!
My girls Grandfather was partially responsible for bringing that monument to fall River. Its an exact clone of the one in D.C. cast from the same mold. Its just awesome, and even more significant to us personally because of her grandfathers efforts. behind it, are engraved bricks for many of those no longer with us, from the fall river area that served at Iwo Gima, her grandfather included. quite an emotional moment for us, and her pictures came out reflecting that emotion i think, wonderful ...
Oh, and this one is awesome as well, taken in Providence...
