Well as a bonus she's probably safer down there in the foot well. Our dog very nearly got hurt riding in the back of our hatchbacks under an emergency stop. That's when I started putting a harness on him that used one of the rear seat belts.
Back OT - I'll join the enablers. My buddy got a base 997 for a song last year and has been dailying it since then with no troubles. Less than Camry money for what it's worth.

I test drove a 2009 Cayman non-S last fall, and all I can say is it would be worth any pain daily driving one would cause. If I wasn't so happy with my MSM at the moment, I'd still be looking for one (or driving it). When I was looking a few months ago, the 2009-1012 models were harder to find and still fairly expensive.
That is true of my search results also, the 2008s are significantly cheaper.

Cayman, not Cayanne.... Hauling dogs in a Cayman sounds....uh.... "fun."
Hahaha I totally misread that! Yes, four dogs in a Cayman would be a problem.

2008's also have a non-serviceable IMS bearing.

I've had two Caymans. My 2006 Cayman S with the six speed and factory short throw shifter was a little high strung and tricky around town. My 2014 PDK is a pleasure all the time. I could easily DD it for the rest of my life.
987.2 have very low production numbers.

Which isn't a problem from a statistical standpoint. Every Cayman (of any generation) owner I've known has always praised its reliability. The most important thing is to drive the damn thing. Never met a German car that enjoyed being a garage queen.
OP. Do it. I will someday.
My dad reeeeally likes the Caymans. That's what he drools over at the Detroit autoshow every year. So I'm not sure why he just bought a new Altima beigemobile when it sounds like he could have gotten a good used Cayman for the same price.
I'm definitely going to try to make it happen.
My dad is the same way, except with a Toyota. He won't even consider anything else, even though he loves Mustangs and goes to Florida for the winter. Seems like a perfect scenario to get a Mustang to me.
