while the two activities don't supposedly mix, driving is a lot like drinking...don't be the cork in the bottle if you can avoid it.

Welcome to Atlanta, where driving 80 in a 65 will get you passed by a Doraville cop on his way to set up his afternoon speed trap. Going ONLY 70 on parts of GA-400 is borderline dangerous.
I drive the I-16 several times a year to the coast, the limit is 70 most of the way. After years of driving I finally realized that going 70 vs 85 makes zero difference since I always stop in Dublin to eat. So now I plop my butt in the right lane at 70 and relax.
drive the DC beltway, labelled 55mph, but you will get run the hell over if you do less than 70 and people regularly do 80-85 in the fast lane.
I270, same.
but whatever you do, DONT GET CAUGHT DOING 81 IN A 70 IN VIRGINIA! (https://jalopnik.com/what-every-driver-should-know-about-speeding-in-virgini-1669902845 )
Yeah, 11 over can get you jail time.
Flip side, our autocross group had a few incidences where we threatened banning certain participants for street racing to/from/near the event as well as sliding their car on a cloverleaf on-ramp leaving an event. If you do naughty things near our event, we dont want you associated with our event.
You know what's more infuriating than ten over? Lack of proper lane discipline. Driving the Trans-Canada through Saskatchewan was amazing, literally everyone kept right except to pass.

You mean all 3 other cars?

Hey. No, you're right.
I don't read the signs. I drive with the flow of traffic. Seems like the best way to avoid having my ass run over by a truck
Except in rural speed trap towns.

And why does everyone park in the CENTER lane???

Yeah... I try to cut VA drivers some slack when they venture out of that Draconian state and drive in NJ and PA. I imagine them watching everyone whipping around them at 75 MPH in a 55 zone thinking we're all insane. Many of those poor saps just aren't used to it. It can be hit-miss in MD. They love their speed cameras around DC and Baltimore...
Our region has a similar "don't be a dick" speech during the trophy session before everyone leaves.
Our region has been known to call the cops and tell them we are having a car event. Car events attract dumb asses. We would love for the local PD to encourage them to hang out elsewhere.

That's easy. On a 3-lane stretch of interstate, the gray hairs (and other slowpokes) will drive in the middle lane, as they are out of the left lane where the fast cars belong, but don't have to be concerned with traffic merging into the right lane at every on-ramp. If you are driving slowly in the right lane, you will occasionally have to brake to allow traffic to merge, which causes a most inconvenient dis-engagement of your cruise control, which was carefully set at 55. Also, lane changes are harrowing for slow drivers who must contend with rapidly overtaking vehicles running 20 mph (or more) faster than they are. Loafing along in the center lane fixes all that.

You just described Pennsylvania drivers. Though, in some fairness to the morons, in PA it's basically illegal to pass everywhere, on any 2-lane painted road. But, even if by some miracle you manage to find a clear spot with a dotted yellow line, the asshat in front of the line will take that opportunity to suddenly speed up by 10 mph until the next turn.

When our events were in town, the local cops would hang out all of the time and we were happy to have them there. One actually ran the course in his cruiser. The boy could hustle that big car.
Don't do anything to get in my way or make me alter my course/speed and I will do the same to you. If you want to pull out and make me brake to avoid hitting you, then I will not be happy. If you want to pass someone who is going 55mph and you want to do it at 55.5 mph, then male sure there is not someone coming up from behind you who wants to go 70mph. If there is either wait for them to pass first or speed up to make your pass without interfering with them.
I am convinced that the majority of drivers out on the road just are not really engaged with what they are doing despite driving more than likely being the most dangerous thing they do on a day to day basis. Also, they do not look ahead far enough, in fact I think that many drivers do not look past the rear bumper of the car in front of them. Scary. Thirdly, there are a lot of folks out there who have no concept of relative motion so they are seemingly unable to plan ahead.
In short, it is nodody's business but mine and the po-po how fast I drive. If I have to change lanes to get around people who are not following my rules, then so what? You are complaining about a victimless crime that is only a crime in an effort to raise money for local and state governments.

More so? People need to turn on headlights when it's snowing/raining. That is more of safety factor the speeding.
Please just everyone turn on your headlights ANY time you drive!! The visibility is worth WAY more than a headlight bulb!

Because some people have absolutely ZERO idea how fast they're going without it.
Years ago I took a business trip with my boss, who was a terrible driver. The speedo in the rental car was intermittent, and we didn't really have time to go back and get a different car. After an hour of him wailing deep into turns, braking way too late and hard, and generally making me E36 M3 my pants on company time, I made him let me drive.
You prove my point; he should never have been introduced to a speedometer and he would not have developed the habit of using it as his main driving tool. There are millions like him who consider the number on the speedometer to be more important than the view out the front window of the car.
Your boss is the guy we all read about who drives his car into the lake because he is following the GPS. Couple of years back, driving through a big road construction project in Michigan, they had to put one of those large overhead signs that said "Follow construction signs, NOT your GPS"
In reply to Casual Six :
I found that to be true in Quebec. If you came upon a car on the left lane they would move over. Un like the NJ Mercedes I came upon in the left lane on I 87 and wouldn't move out of the left lane even after being politely asked.

This is my daily frustration, commuting 60+ miles round trip on 2 lane PA back roads. The one state highway that comprises probably 75% of that drive is mostly 50-55mph limit, with a couple of sections that drop to 35 or 45 where it passes through small towns, and 4 total passing zones. No exaggeration, damn near half the time I spend driving in the 50-55mph zones I'm stuck behind some shiny happy person doing 40-45 with a half dozen plus cars stacked up behind them. Even when you get to a passing zone, AND have the left lane clear to pass, you still can't do it because there just isn't enough room to get by the other 5 dipE36 M3s behind the shiny happy person and everyone else is too much of a Bob Costas to pass anyone.
I think my ideal daily for this kinds bullE36 M3 would look something like this:
