A Steve?

How many folks on here do not have a clue what the origin of this is? Apparently it's a grand. But why?

I know I tend to be a bit dense, but I have no clue or this is old slang I've not heard before, new slang (that almost always looses me - how does a car start on a dime?) or just one guys slang?

Inquisitive minds want to know.

New to me, too.

I have never heard of a car starting on a Dime . I know it as "That car stops on a Dime." It stopped quickly. As far as Steves for $ . I have only read it from Rdcyclist  "Check it out! A fairly complete MGB for One Steve! "

A friend came from a corner of the world where everybody called the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the curb the "outlawn."

He was baffled that nobody here knew the term, and nobody else I've ever asked had ever heard of it.

At least I know now that "a Steve" for $1000 is GRM-specific, and not some thing The Kids all know and I don't.

I mean, this man is an authority on Steve.

It's 100% from the dude in Nc that has the old cup car and a Miata. I do believe his user name is AMiatacalledsteve. He told the story about how that car cost a grand and then all things are judged against it. "Is this car 3 Steve's fun?"  It was a good story and it stuck.

In my circles up here, $1k is one racing unit.   You can't really do much with less than one racing unit, so it really minimizes the emotional damage when something "only" costs 3 RU, not $3000 :)
