I think a Baja beetle would be a pretty good zav. It is easy to fix, will get good gas mileage and is good enough off road.

Light aircraft and fly to a relatively nearby, but seldom visited, inhabited island.

Knowing what I do, I think I'd join my dad and fly off to Dominica. Rainforest island in the Caribbean that is horribly poor, but fairly self sufficient. It also suffers from the problem of no regular transportation on or off the island. Which would mean you're not getting infected dropped off on boats or airplanes.

Sure, there's a chance of infected swimming, walking, or floating to the island, but it would have to be a case of pure luck, so you'd most likely see single zombies, if any. You just need to post a regular vigil on the shores to pick off any that may make their way there.

And if so, how would you be able to tell one from a non-Zombified crab?

Your answer lies in this video; if it is mutated and tries to attach itself to your face, probably a zombie crab.

As Mr. Freeman would attest, a crowbar is a VERY useful weapon.

Get some kind of building built into the side of a cliff, underground or into a hill. Make it almost impossible to see or tell it's there. Then build choke points like that buliding Salanis described. Metal doorframes + heavy metal bars welded across the door openings should keep them out. Zombies can't use a plasma cutter, can they? Maybe do the same for two doorways, so if they break through one you've got time to bug out.

Could always buy a decommissioned missle silo. But how do you escape from that? Once they take the upper floor, you're done for.

Unless the zombies get ahold of a trampoline. Probably get it from the Wal Mart after they overrun it.

They'd come right in from above. You're roasting rat and sewing up your tent when it suddenly starts raining zombies...

I almost started to chastise you for being completely ridiculous. Zombies with trampolines? Who ever heard of such a thing.

Then I remembered what we're talking about, and calling out ridiculousness seemed, well...unnecessary.
