People survived decades driving Delta 88’s with 455 engines and one little old tire spinning in the snow.
My wife has survived 14 years driving a 2WD Trailblazer and in the day her Camaro always in Chicago.
You will survive. Unless your going to western Michigan.......
We kept a 2WD 1999 Expedition through a move from Kansas to Iowa, and sis fine once snow tires were on th vehicle.
Keep an eye on the rear lower control arms though— at 170,000 miles the salt left them so you could poke your fingers through. Almost nothing left except the powder coat.
Kept going (with repairs until just over 200,000 when we sold it.
Okay, Main takeaway is that 2wd would be totally fine through the winter, which is honestly very reassuring. I'll try to do some craigslist searching to see what comparable trucks go for in each city. While 2wd is part of the concern (and I'm happy to know I don't need to have it by any means) the other part is gas mileage, and I know very well how bad the Expedition is at that. So I guess I'll see which area can bring me more money for the Expedition and look for something cheap and not rusty to beat on year-round for a little while. It would just need to be reliable enough to get me to work!
I've owned two 2wd Chevy Astros and they work just fine in SE Michigan winters. Just buy a second set of wheels and snow tires. The 2nd Astro was purchased from the Raleigh, NC area several years ago. We've put 135K on it since and it is starting to show some rust now. I'd bring the Expedition and drive it for a lot more years. If gas mileage is a concern find a good used small car and bring it ,too.
Next question here.
My 1975 Courier is legally registered in GA, but there's no title for it. Is there any shot that I can register that in Michigan? GA doesn't require titles on cars older than '85 so It's never been an issue.
It's not currently running/engine swap isn't finished, but I'm worried about the prospects of registering int in Michigan.. Anyone else been there?

As long as it has a current registration and the state it is registered in does not require it to have a title you can get it titled and registered in Michigan. I don't know if there is any inspection required.
No vehicle inspections in MI. Might help to bring a printed copy of the GA DMV doc that says "no titles on vehicles older than _____" when you go to MI Secretary of State office for tags.
