I was on a hot test trip in death valley maybe 11 ago and there was a B1 bomber flying across our road about a mile ahead of us below the mountain tops. It was one hell of a sight! I didn't have a smart phone then to record anything.
If they strafed me I'd die a happy man.
Hell, yesterday, I heard a radial engine getting close. A big yellow Beaver on floats (is there any other kind?) popped over the trees looking for a place to put down in the bay. I know that giddy feeling those guys felt in Death Vally.

This happened to me except it was a B2 and was knifedge (perpendicular to the ground) low passing over the DC beltway as part of the Airshow at Andrews.
How there weren't any accidents is still somewhat surprising
Actually that's not the same at all.

Yeah on one commute along the DC beltway an Osprey rose up from under the road level of the American Legion Memorial Bridge!! Crossed it then lowered down to the water again. Crazy sight.
way back in the dark ages … in the late 60's early 70's, the AF used to use our mountain valleys here in WNC to practice for the mountain dog fights they were going to see in Viet Nam … we'd occasionally see some pretty dramatic flying
I've seen them flying real low through the Shenandoah valley in VA while running up and down the east coast. Most recently I was down at Va beach for a wedding, saw no fewer than 8 jets (no clue on model but F16 or something is my guess) just smoke it straight out over the boardwalk and out to sea, awesome sights.
In reply to johndej: F-18s out of Oceana NAS. It was more fun in the early 90's growing up there when we had a selection of A-6, A-7, F-14, F-18 and some others overhead. I still remember how much the noise freaked my wife out the first time one flew over us on our honeymoon.
I was stationed at NOB Norfolk, for 3 1/2 yrs (when we weren't out to sea) and even though NAS was on the same base, we seldom ever saw any aircraft … their take-off and landing paths must have been somewhere other than over our ships
since this was in the late 60's/early 70's …. so I'm guessing that if we'd seen any, they would have been F4's and A6's …
airplane guys … what else would have been stationed at NAS Oceana back then ?
Spent some time near Orange Beach last summer - saw several Blue Angels going up and down the coast around lunchtime every day for a week. That was pretty cool. The noises - OMG the noises
I miss the A10's flying treetop level to drop practice ordinance at Crane. So awesome because hte first plane was never heard until AFTER it was overhead/past firing. We always joked that if you were an enemy tank commander, you would have never know what killed you.
Years ago I was sleeping under a blue tarp in the bed of an old chevy truck headed into Fairbanks from Delta Junction in the rain. I was not sleeping deeply but had a sudden prickly-sensation like I was embarrassed. Peeked out of the tarp to see a group of Warthogs in single-file about 1/4 mile behind, only a few hundred feet up, like they were strafing us.
I was pretty happy to be American at that moment.

I used to have research farm in Florence, SC, about 60 miles from Myrtle Beach. One day I was squatting down looking at peanuts or something and all of a sudden two A-10s came right over my field just above tree tops. I almost shat my pants. As you said, you don't hear them until they are on you. It seems the farm I did my work on was a landmark for them, because they would come across all the time when the AFB in MB was still active. They always flew in pairs, weaving and crossing each other. Those planes are loud.
That video was shot not to far from where I live. Couldn't see the markings (low vis is like that) but they might have been from Fallon or China Lake...or Lemoore. If one had been a CAG bird, that would have been easy
I used to live out in the foothills in CA, and the hills would catch on fire with semi-regularity. Back then the water tankers were all still WW2 vintage stuff, and I remember one day the house about rattling off its foundation when an F7F Tigercat and PB4Y-2 Privateer made their drops and pulled up maybe 300 feet above the house. It was incredible hearing and feeling those huge Pratt & Whitney radials at max power

Yeah, there was a small lake that was a turning spot/landmark for them across the road. Most of the time when we saw them they were on a wingtip, banking hard 200ft off the ground. IT. Was. Awesome.
I was at work some time ago and heard a c130 or something buzz us at 1000 feet or so talk about loud. Also got to see some wwii stuff flying around over the years also around here.
when i was a kid- from the late 70's to the late 90's- groups of 3 AC130's would fly not more than a few hundred feet above my house from east to west once a month.. i don't know where they were coming from or where they were going, but on one sunday evening every month they would fly right over my house..
