I'm selling five 16 inch Ford 8 lug wheels, four tires are good, one not so good. Also included is a 16" 5 lug with a brandy new tire. I paid $150 for all and want that amount back.
Guy calls, wants to buy one 8 lug wheel. OK, $25. He gets pissy, thinks I'm way off base. Fine, call three junkyards and I'll beat the average of their prices.
Another guy calls wants the five lug with a new tire. Offers $25. Again, call junkyards and see what they want for a 16" steel wheel without a tire, then we negotiate. He offers $25. No. "Well berkely you, I'll keep looking"
Good luck to ya then.
I was born during the day, but t wasn't yesterday. Am I misunderstanding the FMV of wheels?

At least they aren't 16.5" wheels. They are the devil.

I dunno. I just paid $40 for a set of 15" steelies that had been sitting in an attic for years; (I have what must be the last Ranger with 14's ever built and I don't like the LT choices in that size)
But what would be a spare with a good tire should be worth more, I guess...

I think $150 for the set of 5 is a pretty stinking good deal. $25 for a wheel and decent tire is a good deal. These are steelies, right? If they were mine, I'd hold our for just a tough more as well. And when some guy get's all huffy because I didn't take his low-ball offer, well my asking price just doubled.

People like to feel that they're getting a good deal, and some are more aggressive about bickering than others. Sounds to me like you are reasonably in the right ballpark, price wise, but you could put a price of $5 on a wheel, and some folks are gonna try to talk ya down to $3. I've been doing yard sales lately, and what I do is mark something for more than I want, then graciously "give them a deal" when they show interest. It seems to make 'em happy, and I'm shed of one more piece of clutter; it's all good.

I just paid $45 at the junkyard for a 15 in steel wheel for the Maliboob. The prices seem to have gone up at some point.

$25 is about the going rate for a 16" Ford 5-lug spare steel wheel w/good tire. That's exactly what I paid for mine for the P71. I'd hold out for the $25 on that one and mark the set-of-4+1 down to $125. I don't see anything wrong with $25/wheel.

Have you ever happily paid asking price for a used part? Over price a bit and then negotiate to a price you are happy with and the buyer thinks he got a deal by working you down.
I got a set of Miata rims with decent tires on them for 80 bucks.
I think you are right on the money on price, but C-list people expect to find DEALS.

Nah, I don't think so. People are just more aggressive about things like that than they used to be. And times are tough for a lot of folks out there. There just seems to be a lot more "dog-eat-dog" behavior.
I also think that's why so many people are so rude in traffic, but that's probably a different thread.
