I would guess that the fact that Amazon is terrible to work for may be a factor.
We have a warehouse here and they are constantly hiring. And you get healthcare coverage from day 1. It must be pretty brutal. A fellow sports car club member worked there for a Christmas season. They begged him to stay. He said the main positive is he lost 20 pounds. BTW he is older than me.

Try abebooks for better pricing on the more expensive books.
I don't really want to be "that guy" but you might want to look into who owns abebooks if you intend to get away from the Bezosverse.
If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em!

DD#1 worked for Amazon in a local fulfillment warehouse for about a year. It was tiring work but she had NO complaints about how they were as an employer. And she's of a political bent that would have complained.
Hell, they would even pay for you to train for a career that would end with you leaving Amazon for a better job, like welding, nursing, and other skilled trades.
So there's that.

So you bought things from other sellers, other than Amazon and were surprised it was junk?
If it isn't sold by Amazon themselves, then its anyone on the web and you're back in the bad old days of eBay and Chinesium.
Thay said, things have taken a turn over there and if they don't right the ship, it will sunk quickly. Especially with Walmart and other vendors stepping up to challenge them.
All were "fulfilled by Amazon" or sold by Amazon.
Sounds like they are still tossing everything with the same SKU into one bin. Even if a vendor (or Amazon themselves) are selling a legit item, it doesn’t help when other vendors are shipping counterfeits to an Amazon warehouse, and it’s all getting mixed together.

On the turtle sponges, I was ordering a specific SKU and being sent another.

I had to call amazon today and complain because their drivers are using my circle drive as a drive-through. That’s all I got!
I still have 100% satisfaction.
Last week my gf was craving these particular spicy pickles, I couldn't find them anywhere locally. Ordered them on Amazon and she had them by 8pm same day.

I bought a Denso a/c condenser from them that was obviously a return (all bolt holes had been used), plus mangled to boot. Although they fully refunded my $60, they insisted on having me return the bad part via tge local Kohls store, unpackaged. Why, I have no clue.
Other than that oddity, they have done fine by me so far.

I’m still a satisfied customer, although their prices are no longer the best. Still good for odd items, but not better for common items.
As long as I’m still amused by The Grand Tour and other shows on Prime I’ll probably retain membership.
Also, make sure you use Smile.amazon.com, so a small portion of a the sale goes to charity. You can pick the charity too-anything from Major national charities to your local school or church. All of mine goes to Ronald McDonald House.

Christ, I hope she at least gave you a few Advil before the procedure.

Ugh. I've gotten tired of posting about them in the minor rant thread.
For me, my rants are around their E36 M3ty fulfillment performance.
I do a lot of, "gee, I only have Community Coffee through Tuesday," orders. Few orders are for more than three items, and most are under $100.
Thursday morning, I was at my office downtown, when it struck me as a good idea to get a tiny travel USB/110v power strip so the one outlet at my desk would charge my laptop, phone and tablet at full speed. I chose same-day delivery at the Amazon Locker a block away.
6p comes and I leave. On the train, I get a notification that they couldn't deliver because they couldn't access the building, and I should fix it by providing my delivery instructions.
For an Amazon Locker.
It arrived at 6:30p Friday, and they're now spamming me to pick it up before Monday.
My wife is waiting on a monitor that was due a week ago. Should finally arrive Monday.
I have two items that went out for delivery, then we're marked as damaged in transit. I've had to wait for them to make their way back to Amazon for refund even though they've never left Amazon's hands.
They're really struggling to get deliveries done around here. I miss Louisiana, where delivery mostly fell on FedEx, USPS and UPS. Things tended to arrive on time, mostly.

Mike, that reminds me, we have a locker in a 7-11 that is 24 hours and I’ve noticed that I’ll get things delivered there faster, and the added bonus of security. Too bad it doesn’t work all the time apparently. I’m kinda surprised they put one in a secured building.

It's actually a twenty-four hour location.
I just looked, and now the app says it's expected to arrive on the third. When I tap on the order, then tracking, it says it arrived on the fourth, and I have until Tuesday.
If it's there when I am, great. If not, oh well.
I have been looking at dropping prime and moving them to the bottom of my list. Alternately, shopping as much as possible as "no rush" shipping. If it'll take that long anyway, I might as well get the credits and not get disappointed.
Lately I've been on a parts/supplies buying spree for the LS swap for my wagon split between Rock Auto, Jegs, Ebay and Amazon. Usually price with shipping being the deciding factor. The last few Amazon orders have been right and Amazon usually doesn't get the order unless it's a small prime item that I would be paying shipping on elsewhere. This thread does remind me that I just assumed my spark plugs would be right but didn't open them to check since I'm not really to the point of needing them yet. Usually when ordering parts from Amazon I'll find the part number elsewhere, search for that number, and then check for it in multiple places on the Amozon listing before placing my order, so far I've had decent luck. Recent changes to the prime video app on xbox have made it annoying to rewatch old episodes of motor trend shows though so there's that I guess. (Still nowhere near as bad as the last time I tried to use the actual motor trend app).
In reply to mtn :
7-11s round my way typically don't come with the bonus of added security unless it's frequented by the Nash Bridges. Fortunately we've got a lot of cops.

I had shared this with my wife, who is beyond getting pregnant, and she said, Well, you don't have to worry about that."
We had discussed vasectomy before the arrival of menopause. My reply, "Yeah, girlfriend."

My gf is from middle of nowhere Louisiana. Their taste in food is beyond the cravings of a pregnant woman. Pickled beats are a snack for her at work. Gross!

Just quoting this to see how far we can push it.
Re knock-offs, that seems to have been a problem for quite some time now. Microsoft used to have a very small foldable mouse that I've tried to order via the 'zon and promptly received a knockoff.

They really have become a clearing house of knock offs and returns.
