So tax time with ebay is always a pain.  With the issue of sales tax, it becomes even more difficult.  Because every state has a different sales tax rate, a transaction by transaction detail is necessary.

I know ebay takes care of the collection and payment of sales tax, but I still need to know the amount, because the total paid by the buyer includes the tax amount.

How do you get a report showing this detail?  It seems like ebay limits reports to 90 days in the past?  How am I to get a report going back to January 2021?  Why do they not anticipate their users' needs for this information?  Or do they, and I'm an idiot?

If you have the "seller center" enabled (rather than just seeing the "my ebay" selling page), you can go to the "performance" tab and generate a report comparing 2021's sales to 2020's sales. That has a total sales amount including sales tax and then separately lists "taxes and fees" collected by eBay. You can remove the taxes and fees from the total sales and that should give you the number you seek.

And YES, the eBay reports are for some insane reason limited to 90 days of past sales. It makes no sense. I can go on PayPal and get reports all the way back to when I opened the account. This costs them basically nothing. But eBay only lets you see 90 days of sales. At least 18 months would be *useful*. 90 days and it might as well not exist.

I do keep all my eBay emails in my gmail account and if you do, maybe you can use the email search function to generate a list of sales pretty easily. Just play around with search terms. I think the sales amounts listed in the emails do not include sales tax, but verify that to be sure.

Yeah, it's just nuts, trying to find all the relevant info.  I need sale amount, amount paid for shipping, tax paid by seller.  Then I need cost of shipping, fees paid to ebay, and fees paid to paypal.  I guess it's a good thing I only have 40 or 50 transactions.  I swear I'm going to start logging each transaction when I ship it.  It would be so much easier.

Is "seller center" free, or do they charge for that?

Hey, thanks for that reminder on the email record of the sale!  I do keep those mails, and that gives me some good info.

I feel better now.  I think I can handle this!  cool

Awesome! The seller center is free they asked me about opting in to it a couple years ago and I do like it.

You'll need to log in to post.
