Stumbled across this today. Sounds like a good front door monitor. Have an old phone with a power cord, that senses motion.. and sends you a text with photos.
Can anyone recommend one? I don't mind purchasing an app but I don't want to pay a monthly fee. One that dumps photos in Dropbox would be great.

I've thought about it as well.
A friend at work has several old smart phones doing exactly what you asked about. I think he uses an app called @home to access the phones. He showed me how it worked a few times, and I thought it was cool.
It's a neat idea but I already built mine into a train car for my railroad. An iPhone 4 just clears my bridges.
