Spur of the moment opportunity came up, might be going there for dinner and breakfast. Recommendations? Cheap place to stay? Can I just fall asleep in a hammock somewhere without getting a hotel room?

Bermuda and 'cheap' do not belong in the same sentence. Cheap may actually be against the law there. It is a lovely island that I would happily re-visit at any opportunity, filled with culture, history and sophistication, but cheap ain't on the menu.
So far the best place I found is $125 a night, with many more in the 150-170 range. I'll be arriving at 2 pm and the plan is to rent a scooter and check out some beaches. Then, get to wherever I'm staying to get cleaned up for dinner and some drinks (recommendations would be sweet!) Next morning it's back to the beach and some lunch before I fly out at 3pm.
Any ideas?
I am going in July for my honeymoon. That is all I got but we aren't aiming for cheap (but not super expensive either).
Had a great trip, did some archery, snorkeling, and spelunking. Pretty pricey but I would still recommend because the people were so nice.
Looks like we're taking a cruse in July.... should be interesting. Wife wants to hit hte cave and the beach. I want to rent a bike (preferably motorized) and ride around the island.
My mom told me a story of Bermudan tragedy. About 25 years ago she knew some people that went there for a vacation. They had rented scooters to get around the island. One very dark evening after dinner and many drinks they were headed back to their lodgings on the scooters. One of the women needed to stop and relieve her distended bladder. There was a nice tall hedge near the road, so she decided to urinate on the side of the hedge away from the road. She steps into the hedge and screamed. Her husband charges to her rescue and also screams. One of the more sober individuals points a scooter headlight at the hedge. With the hedge lit up it becomes apparent that it is not a hedge but the tops of 40' trees growing next to a cliff. The couple survived with many broken bones.
My dad spent two days in the harbor after an engine fire on an LST. He said it looked like a nice place, but noboby got liberty.

I spent 6 months there in the late '80s, courtesy of the U.S. Navy. Locals, at least in my view, ran "hot and cold" as far as manners go. And no, it is not cheap, I remember that just a bus ride was on the pricey side compared to the "states. Flip side? Lots of tourists, especially after a cruise ship or 3 pulls in, and nice beaches....think mini-Hawaii.
Would I go back? There are several other places I'd rather visit (some for the first time, some again) before going back to Bermuda. BTW, we were there during hurricane season and one "hit" Bermuda knocking power out to some sections of the island for more than a month.
