Anyone from New York?

I bought a car in New York with a title issue. Without going into all the boring details, I had to send the title back to the previous owner, get the error corrected, have him get the title back in his name, sign it off to me and send it back.
Originally he told me it should be a coulpe weeks. It's been a month now, and he's telling me that he found out that it might take up to 3 months.
Does this sound right to you guys?

I'm in NY, and yes that sounds right. A phone call to the DMV by the seller can possibly expedite it a little. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up any day now as one month seems about average for this type of deal in NY - DMV will tell you 3 months but they tend to get it done faster.

Yes, exactly what pigeon said. One month seems to be a reasonable number, but I have waited 2.5 months for a title before. Still waiting for the title for the Audi, actually.

In Ohio you walk into the title office with the old title and walk out with the new one. I can't imagine what NY has to do that takes that long!

At least you have a Title. I'm in NY and need one, I have to track down two previous owners and have them sign off, pay $50 and wait six weeks.

My son sold a motorcycle, signed over the Title, Bill of Sale etc. A month later I get a call from NYC's finest asking about a motorcycle Titled in my name that has been in an accident.

Not me, it's my son's and he sold it a month ago.

Long story short: guy couldn't ride, had no license, no insurance, stole a plate from another suzuki so if they traced the plate it wouldn't kick up a flag; and then he planked a minivan.

That was in 2009.

I got a letter in the mail on Friday from NYC's finest:
Dear Sir, come and get this stupid motorcycle Titled in your name within two weeks or face $25/day storage.

If it's not al pretzeled it will be here for ~$200.

Update for an idea of timeframe. I just today received the title for the Audi. That car was registered the first week of February.

And NY isn't the model of efficiency for anything.

The New York Gubbmint burns money through very efficiently. I used to have to deal with them, truly the walking dead.
