I had been thinking that for the economy taking such a bad turn, I'd been doing ok. Well, no such luck. At 25 i've officially experienced my first layoff. Up until today, I was a draftsman here: www.turrell-associates.com, but in the past few weeks we went from having 3 of us slammed all the time to enough work to keep one of us busy only half the time.
Anyone in the area looking for CAD/Solidworks/Mechanical/Graphical/Industrial/Manufacturing help? Or have a hairdresser's, cousin's, third ex-wife who knows someone that does?
blah.
I am sorry to hear about your ex-employment. I do wish you the best of luck in finding a decent opportunity soon!
I know someone in Gainesville who might be in a somewhat related field (from what I know of his company and looking at your company's website). If you'll send me your resume, I'll be happy to pass it along to him.
Edit: I guess that means send me a PM and I'll reply so you'll have my email address.

I live in Ft. Myers and was laid off about 6 weeks ago. Since then I got a job with a company in Naples, but the job I'm working on for them is in Colorado, so I'm just outside Denver at the moment, and it's cold as all heck. Can't wait to get back, though I don't know how much work they have there at the moment. Kind of nervous, to be honest.
If you have no strings keeping you there, I'd recommend that you at least be open enough to consider a move. I haven't heard anything good from SWFL as of late. I'm actually thinking of going back to school.
I have nothing to contribute except this funny ad

and by funny I mean sad.

my girlfriend works at NCH making a lot of money so that kind of limits the move options. Good luck when you come back, hope you don't befall the same situation again.
PM'd my brother's info. Hopefully he can help. Good luck, and sorry to hear of your misfortune.
I work for a company that does the same type work, minus the coastal stuff. We are slow, but doing OK (for now). We haven't had a full time CAD operator for years. No more draftsman either. Good luck!
PS: Please mention to Matt that you were the guy wrenching on the Toyota all weekend at the Challenge. A work ethic/commitment like that is hard to come by these days!!!
