Since we now have two FREELOADERS at our house, our washer is seeing double duty. It has now died. Recent model Maytag, completely dead. My first thought is main control switch. Any advice on how to fix this thing? Really a bad time to have to spring for another one. Thanks.

What exactly is it doing when you try to turn it on? Do the switches not respond? Does it not agitate? Does it not fill with water?
There are many times troubleshooting and schematics available if you google "Maytag 'model #' repair/troubleshooting/schematics".

Have the freeloaders go to the laundromat. Really. I've had friends kids, and at one point, a teacher friend, living with me while going to school. I found the extra B.S. involved with them using my laundry stuff made it just not worth any extra board money (when it was paid).
I have a 12 YO niece and a 14 YO nephew staying with us (along with my 7&5 YO kids) and they are driving me nuts. Our daily water usage has tripled since they have been here. Last night I found the washing machine going with ONE pair of pants in it! I had to keep my wife from killing...
Back on topic- the Googles are your friend (as mentioned). I've used the interwebz to help diagnose my garage door opener, dryer, and fridge. Can find the replacement parts cheap too.

If I was getting board money, it would be another thing. But, no. The washer is dead, dedd, dedd. Full of water, does not respond to any controls, which is why I feel it is the master control. I will get the model number and do a search. Major brand, so should not be too hard. Just wanted to vent.
No disrespect - have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Our whirlpool went bonkers a while back and we thought it was toast. we had weird light combinations on the panel and unresponsive buttons. We gave it the "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" treatment and it has worked fine since.
It's a long shot....

Disregard all above. A popped breaker was the problem. I was all ready to go Medieval on my roomies, but can't do it now. Not yet, anyway. Thanks, all.
woops. glad it worked out for free!
