I have this drill:

and the chuck on it is garbage/no longer working. I found a replacement chuck for $23 which appears to be the same as original which sounds like a bad idea.  Can I replace it with a different model or brand and if so do you have any recommendations?

As you can see from the disassembled picture above there is a locking screw inside the chuck, and the chuck is screwed onto  the output shaft. The output shaft on most drills is the same, 1/2"-20 on our stuff at work. You just need to find a chuck with a matching thread. As for what brand is good I can't help you with that. Milwaukie used to make a keyless ratcheting chuck for their 1/2" holeshooters. It works buy running the drill and hammers closed or open depending on which way you run it. Most people don't understand it and think its a piece of junk, and I don't know if they even make it anymore. By far the best drill chuck I've ever used, keyed or keyless.
