If the guy had outstanding warrants but was resisting arrest... well, that doesn't excuse the beatdown but makes it a little more understandable.

That is where I think people lose the point. Its why I say that there fact that he is a skater probably has nothing to do with it. Warrants or no warrants, resisting is what changes the game. People without warrants don't get special treatment, people with warrants don't get taken down harder. That is not to be confused with a felony take-down.

Also, I am at a loss as to how the cop in the video N Sperlo linked was cleared by IAD, considering he went from empty hand techniques to using a baton in a matter of a second.

Another calm cop- the detainee isn't an E36 M3-eating jerk about it, so that probably helped his case quite a bit. I'd imagine that "jeez, I might very well get shot if things go even a little wrong" is a great motivation to be polite.
