So, the national news hasn't exactly been all rainbows, puppies and unicorns this week. Without getting into politics and stuff, let me just say this about that: Do what you can to brighten your corner of the world. Smile. Listen. Be nice to a stranger. Take a second to give someone the benefit of the doubt.
Thanks.

I think of this place like an extended (and somewhat dysfunctional) family. We don't always get along with each other and sometimes end up bickering a bit, but in the end we all share a common bond that, in the end, keeps us all together.
Agreed on all counts. Just be nice to people, dammit. The golden rule and all that.

Totally gratuitous photo that makes me happy.
+infinity. Couldn't agree more. And it's not hard to do. Just be nice. Be pleasant. Ask a stranger how their day is going and mean it. Listen to the answer.
To quote Buffalo Springfield:
There's battle lines being drawn.

The consensus I've come to on humanity
This should be required reading for the entire country right now:

Long story short: Your attitude defines your reality, and people tend to become EXACTLY what you expect they will become.
As long as we keep expecting the worst from each other, that's precisely what we'll get.

Is this an original quote? I'm dead serious because it may become a meme.

I would like to think if it does we would all learn a little something from it.

Because you'll be receiving attribution for it when I post it.

Those are my words. Hopefully smarter people than me have at least thought of them, though. If everyone has been waiting on ME to solve their problems, they need to seriously raise their standards.

If you get into a disagreement with someone, head out/take a break and blow off some steam. Most times, it isn't worth it.
Good advice. Thanks David.

99% of life boils down to "Don't be a dick." It's a shame that only 49% of humanity understands that.

It's very similar to the old Wolf story, supposedly an Indian story.
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”
