frying a turkey? Are there oils besides peanut oil that can safely and satisfactorily be used to fry a turkey? Spousal unit has developed a peanut allergy and has not been able to enjoy the wonder of fried turkey on Thanksgiving for the past few years. I'd like to enable her to enjoy the succulent yummyness once again. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It will take a lot of it, but I vote for bacon grease.

Good old Canola oil should work. Support your Canadian farmers.

Vegetable oil works fine. I fried two of them this past weekend in it. Yummy.

Vegetable shortening will give you that lovely, crispy, goodness you remember from your childhood. It will also kill you a little faster. I try to only use it once a year.
