So I'm happy with my head unit and the 4 door speakers, but I would like some more bass.
Younger Rev would go get a set of RF punch 2 10s or 12s and a monoblock class D amp. Older Rev has less disposable income, and would prefer something a bit more subtle, like 300-500 watts. I don't need a to rattle the cars around me at red lights, but I would like to feel it, if that makes sense.
I know nothing about speakers/subs/amps that small. I also haven't been subwoofer shopping since 07 or 08 so I'm a little out of touch with what's available.
Extended cab ranger. Back seat area is too small for the kid so plenty of space back there. I don't want to go with under seat because snow, rain, mud worry me.
Polk db 8 inch in a .35 cubic foot sealed box. 50 for the sub, and some plywood. Powered with a cheap amp (theres a 300 wat bridgable on Amazon for 50 or so. Sql maybe the brand. Amps about the size of a couple packs of cigarettes)
Works great!
The ranger logo has always i r k e d me. .RaNGER...mix of upper case and lower case letters.
"water-proof" the enclosure with the cheapest brush/roll-on bedliner you can find?
I'm rather attached to the Kenwood that's in it, been through 4 cars now. It is sufficient and will happily handle 2 or 3 amps hooked up if I want to get crazy.
Duster, just a single 8"?
Would it be worth adding an amp to the rear speakers as well? Rated 150rms 300 peak, and only getting 50 from the head unit.
Regular or extended cab pickup has little need for rear speakers at all. One eight, well fed in an appropriate ported box is more than enough in a small space. I would try a full range amp on the front speakers with a high pass filter, and a ported box running off a class D.
I heard one of these ( jl audio microsub ) at a local car audio shop and was amazed at the output, just running off a 300w RMS motorcycle amp.
Years ago, I let go a JL 8w0 in a small truck box. I powered it with a Kenwood 150W amp. IT was more than sufficient for a truck cab. That long throw woofer made you believe. I had that thing in 3 or 4 vehicles before giving it to a friend in need after the amp finally melted down (10 years of bridged use will do that). I wish I had it back.
I run the sub I recommended in my regular cab Silverado. I actually have to turn it down because it's too much Bass. It's a good sound quality sub that also hits pretty damn hard when head fed enough power

Last install I had was a Boston 10", small sealed cube, infinity doors and by 9's, alpine h/u, and maybe a 500w 5ch amp. Sounded pretty berkeleying good in my DSM. Not quite the jl/pioneer/vega/crossfire setup I had in my other other Corolla, but that's old school. I'd go with a multichannel amp like that again in a setup like your truck.

It's the "tOGGLE cASE" of rAnger. So it's an angry truck, but with good range.
What I want I can no longer buy, so I'll have to get my hands on one of those Polks then one i get caught up on bills.
I forgot when I started this thread, Rockford had a secondary brand called lightening audio. They sold a truck kit for $200 that was perfect, had it in my first truck. 450 watt amp, shallow 10" 750 watt sub in a truck box, and wiring. I guess no one else bought them, which is typical of most things I like.
A 500 watt stereo in a compact pickup...I think back in the day, The Who didn't have that many watts in their guitar amps.
