Boat...

I got to get a boat. I forgot how much I loved them. Just had the most relaxing day on the water with the family. 22" Duracraft aluminum with a 100 hp Yamaha. Not to loud and with plenty of room.

No fishing.
No swimming.
No skiing.

Just puttering around. It was great.

So, you need a hole in the water you can throw money into then, huh?

There's pretty much one thing that may break on a utiliarian boat like that; the motor. Luckily, it's an outboard so when you get tired of throwing parts at it, you swap it out for a new (different, usually nearly as bad) one in about half an hour.

My wife said the same thing the first day we met. I was the team engineer for an F3 tunnel boat team and she was crew (and at the time held the record as the youngest woman to ever to do the Run to the Sun race) on a distance competition sailboat.

P.S. for the record, there is nothing more annoying than a sailboat owner. They never want to spend a damn dime on the boat and then wonder why the damn thing breaks.

if you want to put it in racing terms.. Racing a powerboat is like Nascar.. while racing a sailboat is like autocross

You have no idea what tunnel boat racing is about do you? Try racing a sailboat is autocross vs motorcross.

I have seen videos.. and looks scary as all hell. The powerboat racing we get around here is all the deepV offshore stuff

I don't discriminate. I am a fan of all things on the water. Currently have two 15' Whalers and a 16' Hobie cat and either can create an awesome time. As long as you aren't an idiot, boats are pretty simple and not expensive to run.

I said it once and I will say it again powerboat racing is about as far from Nascar as you can get. You may be at the same GPS coordinates but there is nothing the same about that spot in the water. Rollers, waves, wakes, wind, current changes lap to lap, so it has more in common with Motorcross and Baja than Nascar.

Blah. The throttle guy does all the work in those classes. Good hull, reliable boat, and good throttle guy and you got it.

I am thinking aluminum with nothing more than a stereo. I really liked the Duracraft I was in today. Stable, dry, shallow draft, didn't drink allot, and sat 6.

i'm putting my free aluminum boat on the water this year. free boat + $700 for new gas tank/lines/wood floor/seat/CDI ignition upgrade and it's ready to go. it needs paint but i could care less right now. if it survives a year on the water then i'll bother painting it.

My stepdad had a 16ft (I think) Boston Whaler. What incredible fun that was. I'd look for wakes from bigger boats and ride the crests kinda like a surfboard.

Kanoes (edited to avoid the spam filter) are the best boats ever. Truly zen-craft. I can feel the stress melting away whenever I'm in one.

I have been around boats all my life. When I was a small child my Father was the engineer aboard this: A converted PT boat that could carry 90 passengers on the ride of their lives

But I found my love of boats at the tillar of a sailboat. I won't post pics of the boat I am currently talking to the owner of. He wants too much for a boat that is going to need 100hours (or more) of sanding on. Tip to all potential boat owners do NOT use housepaint to spruce up your boat.

This is not my potential boat.. but a rather well perserved example of the Sea Sprite 23.. with a questionable fore hatch
