I have a 1" brass threaded fitting mating to a 1" brass garden hose bibb.

There's a healthy glob of "Megaloc" sealant between the two. This is off the head of a well pump for irrigation.
Does this type of joint just keep getting torqued until no leaks remain? I estimate 2oo ft lbs just now but it still has a steady dribble. Have I torqued too hard or not enough? If not enough, I need some cheater bars.
Check and make sure you don't have a pinhole in one of the parts. Some of the Chinese brass is less than perfect.
Yeah, pipe thread is tapered, so basically tighten it until water stops escaping. Some guys like tape, some guys like dope, we always use both.
1" fittings will take big torque. I've never broken one by over tightening.
Then, verify the leak is actually from the threads and not the valve body itself. Cheap fittings are cheap. If it won't seal I'd try to get it warrantied, not uncommon for bad machining on brass anyway.
Thanks both. I found some teflon tape, cleaned the threads and gave it 7 wraps. Then the Megaloc, then ran it down. Much less torque and no leaks.
Tape and dope.
GHT and NPT are not the same. Could that be the issue?

Good thoughts. I've not seen a hose bib with female garden threads, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
