What's next, the Stocks??
CLEVELAND (AP) -- A woman caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to avoid a Cleveland school bus that was unloading children will have to stand at an intersection wearing a sign warning about idiots.
Court records show a Cleveland Municipal Court judge on Monday ordered 32-year-old Shena Hardin to stand at an intersection for two days next week. She will have to wear a sign saying: "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."
The judge ordered her to wear the sign from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. both days.
Hardin's license was suspended for 30 days and she was ordered to pay $250 in court costs.
Messages seeking comment were left at a telephone listing for Hardin and at her attorney's office.

I for one see no problem with this. Of course it is sad that the court is doing something parents should have done years ago.
I think I saw this on "America's Dumbest Criminals" or some such. If it's the same incident, she actually did this daily for over a week, and the police posted a stake-out to catch her after someone on the bus turned in a video of it happening.

Makes sense. The times just seemed oddly specific to me.

Yeah, but school zones are oddly specific. I pass through one every morning that starts at 8:05 am.
Watch the video in this link: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/11/06/ohio-woman-who-drove-on-sidewalk-to-avoid-school-bus-ordered-to-wear-idiot-sign/?test=latestnews
That looks like a flagrant foul and that she received a light sentence.
That video is completely staged.
First off, the bus driver had his cell phone filming before any violation had begun. He then narrates the tape, and says she drives on the sidewalk BEFORE she does it.
Take one, the Jeep is the only car in the picture. Take 2, it's passing another car. WTF??
I am also almost completely sure the car pulled over is not the Jeep. Tail lights are different.
Something is VERY fishy.
She's been doing that for weeks before that, so that's how the bus driver knew to get the cell phone out to tape her.
So she passes the same bus, at the exact same point in the road every day, and detours on the sidewalk every day?
Still sounds weird.

I think you're giving "weird" way too much credit.
I have to stop for the same School Bus every day. Unless I leave for work a minute or two early or later for work each day.
Though, I dont try to pass on the sidewalk.

Trivia: In Ohio, a school zone does not have to be marked.
I got a speeding ticket in a school zone a few years back. I was going to contest it because I entered the school zone from a side street, so there was no way for me to even know that there was a school zone there. I dusted off my GED in Law and checked out what the ORC had to say, and that's what it had to say.
What ended up happening was, I went to court, and the judge said absolutely nothing about school zone, just 29mph in a 20mph zone so I kept my trap shut except for the words "No Contest". Out the door for only $185 and no points.
I would have no problem with the stocks for people who pass school buses that are loading/unloading kids, as long as there is a supply of tomatoes and other squishy fruits/vegetables on hand. Maybe they could put the stocks at the West Side Market.

Very good point. I hope she does. If I were the judge, she'd be leaving without a license for six months. She made the decision to do something dangerous to avoid following rules while driving.
one hour a day for 2 days? wtf? how is that punishment...I can burn up an hour a day playing angry birds if Im bored enough. I think the sentence should carry a clause that any person who wishes to punch her in the face should be legally allowed to do so...Id drive 4 hours just for the chance to deck an idiot...twice
